Summary

Dissatisfied with his career as the first mate on a river tugboat, all Gill Jarvis wants is a new and exciting career. As they say, be careful what you wish for. Out of a mysterious fog on the Mississippi, a band of pirates appears. The pirates, led by Jean and Pierre Lafitte, transported to the 21st century by a voodoo spell, seize his ship, and his adventure begins. After discovering they moved forward in time, the pirates offer Gill the chance to join their crew. His job? Guide them through the maze of the current century until they discover the time-travel secret, allowing them to return to the 19th century where they belong. As they hide out in 21st-century Memphis, the situation becomes desperate. Jean discovers his wife, left behind in the 19th century, requires a modern medical procedure to save her and her unborn child. Frantic, they work to discover the time-travel secret. They enlist the help of scientists, voodoo practitioners, and a talking crow. But once the secret is unlocked, they still must make the journey both through time and across the Caribbean to the pirates’ home port on Galveston Island. New Orleans street hustlers and slave catchers throw obstacles in their path, while US Navy pirate hunters strive to bring the crew to justice. Does Gill regret his career change?
