Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Each lesson contains practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak Mandarin Chinese.  Content note: The Mandarin Chinese phrase is qing gen zhe shuo and means "listen and repeat". When first introduced in lesson 11, it's given with the definition and repeated. After that it's given with the definition several more times. You will encounter this with the introduction of new Mandarin Chinese words moving forward, whenever you are told (in Chinese) to "listen and repeat". It is a cue that a new word is coming up.
