How God Judges People

Summary

Why do good people suffer? Are God’s judgments always fair? Does he judge us the way we judge others? Often, we judge people based on situations that we believe to be real, only to find out that things are completely different than what we've imagined. By casting judgement unto others, we hurt not only their soul, but also ours, causing wounds which may never heal. But God judges all humans according to the highest and purest standard: his perfect and holy character. The Lord's judgement is perfect and total. While our judgment of each other is often superficial and self-centered, his judgment is eternally significant. Therefore, we should be critical of our own judgments instead of trusting them right away. However, if God is so righteous, then why do pious men endure a life full of sorrow while sinners who disobey his commandments have everything going well for them?  In the second book of The Patristic Heritage Series, Elder Cleopa answers the questions above and many others, illustrating how limited and distorted our human judgement is compared to God’s divine judgement.
