Summary

Asatru has been interpreted in many different ways. Yet the freedom and promise we caught a glimpse of when we found Asatru seems to have eluded us. This book is a clear outline of how we may use our faith to surmount the obstacles of not only our society but the hindrances within ourselves as well. The complications in our lives which may have drawn us to Asatru sometimes require a little more work on our part. But how? I believe this book will help those folk who are struggling to implement this faith in their life.  For the long-time believer, Asatruar it is a gateway to the next stage of growth. For the newcomer, it is an outline to help grasp concept of our own responsibility for our spiritual well-being. With even the barest of beginnings, we possess within ourselves the power to enact the kind of powerful success and fulfillment which has eluded so much of the world today.

Summary

142: Then began I to thrive, | and wisdom to get, I grew and well I was; Each word led me on | to another word, Each deed to another deed. Just exactly how should a man be expected to act? What kind of outcome will there be for a man who adopts this way of life we call Asatru? Stanza 142 tells me all I really need to know. Once I kill the ego or that bloated perception of self, new things will begin to appear in our lives. Positive things that had previously been out of reach. Starting at a place which brought us to a point where the very concept of our survival hinged upon the imperative of change, we have rediscovered an ancient path. We might recognize our ego, once we begin to grow in earnest because it begins to negotiate. It will even lie to us. It suggests to us that there ought to be something very worthwhile if we give all this up. All of this ridiculous hardship we have brought upon ourselves with our best thinking. It suggests to us that if we embrace ever more radical positions to the left or to the right of politics or society in general, well then, that righteous indignation of believing how right we think we are is a suitable substitute for spiritual development. More often than not, all we are doing is trying to apply a new coat of paint on a tired old ideology. But these are not the new words we ought to be focusing on. These old words only serve to build a victim mentality. No one engaged in those fringes of society thrives. Stanza 142 of the Havamal suggests I will thrive, that I will develop wisdom (earned the hard way for most of us), that I will grow and be well. In short, it tells me that after I have made a similar sacrifice as the one Odin has, things are going to get better. It also tells me what that effort looks like. Each word thought or idea leads to another one. Bold new horizons appear. And with each new horizon, a new adventure which will require great deeds. Some of them far beyond one's ability to even imagine.

The Courage to Love

Summary

This wonderfully romantic tale is only found in the paper copies of The Eddas, an unnamed collection of Norse works. Snorri, an Icelandic historian and poet, doesn’t mention it elsewhere in his works. It is probably not much older than the 17th century. Being that we cannot trace its origin much further back than that, it is largely ignored. But I believe we do so at the risk of missing how these grand tales became what they are today. Well, this tale succinctly brings together the many and varied elements of recurring themes throughout the lore. But the overall work is of sufficient character that the meaning is abundantly clear. "The Svipdgsmal" is actually two poems that many editors have wisely chosen to keep together. If we look closely upon this ancient text, we find a fantastic set of instructions for living this faith of Asatru. We also find that in the 17th century, people were still looking to these ancient tales, in exactly the same way we are, for some kind of guidance concerning that riskiest of ventures: that would be loving someone. In the effort to grow into someone worthy of the love they seek, this tale serves as a reminder that these Gods and our ancestors are, and always have been, on our side.

Summary

Not so long ago I was enjoying a profound discussion with a good friend of mine. His analogy of all roads lead to Rome really meaning that all roads lead to the door of death has stuck with me. Largely because it means we are going to need to discuss an ancient Goddess. Hel. Who, as she is described in the lore is most difficult to understand. But it is entirely in line with what a Christian would need people to think. For it was the promise of Jesus that there would be life everlasting. The first thing you need to do is to vilify death and make it a scary place. This book is an attempt to rectify that. One based upon that conversation, an understanding of the lore and one magnificent idea which will shake the foundations of the world in those gray areas of change, those areas where we have been taught to fear the chaos held at bay by the constructs of our minds, we will find the truth.

Summary

On any given day, men and women around the world are practicing ancient faiths. They do so to embrace a freedom many have felt has been denied them. It has become a fountain of inspiration for the world. The effects of the new thought processes are changing the very face of society. It is doing so in ways with which we are just now coming to grips.

For some, it represents a new way to look at life. For those folks who have checked out my previous works, they will immediately grasp what I am talking about. New thought processes are taking root and changing lives for the better. That is what it ultimately boils down to.

But not all of us are enjoying such victories. This audiobook has been created to help you change that.

Life and the Love of Life

Summary

“One of the signs of a great society is the diligence with which it passes culture from one generation to the next. This culture is the embodiment of everything the people of that society hold dear. When one generation no longer esteems its own heritage and fails to pass the torch to its children, it is saying in essence that the very foundational principles and experiences that make the society what it is are no longer valid. What is required when this happens and the society has lost its way is for leaders to arise who have not forgotten the discarded legacy and who love it with all their hearts.” (Winston Churchill)

What happens to these great societies and the faiths that supported them when the catastrophes of cosmic, earthly, and man-made disasters kill so many people that we cannot carry those stories forward? Lif and Lifthrasir are not people of our age who happened to hide in a tree. They are our ancestors, sequestered away, prepared to impart the knowledge of the runes and how to live life according to them in a new world. This audiobook outlines what challenges that information has had to overcome to be present in this day and age.

This information is here now for you to make the most use of. Using the Hynluljoth, the Reginsmol, Fafnismol, and many others, I have pointed out how we might prepare ourselves not only for daily life as Asatruars, but also our children for whatever the future might hold for them.
