You'll also encounter practical tips and crucial context for greeting, interacting with, and even managing people from other parts of the world. In the first half, you'll analyze 10 cultural value dimensions that researchers have identified as helpful for comparing cultures; and you'll see how these "archetypes" play out in day-to-day lives. In the second half, you'll look at 10 cultural clusters around the world that - when combined with your understanding of the 10 cultural dimensions - provide strategic insight into how to be more effective as you live, work, and travel in our globalized world. Why do people from certain cultures have little regard for time? Why might working overtime reflect poorly on you in Scandinavia? Why should you avoid using your left hand when interacting with someone from the Arab world? You'll find out the answers to these and other intriguing questions in Customs of the World. Business today is global - and success requires a new set of skills. But not to worry. Whether you're negotiating with vendors in Asia, exploring potential markets in Africa, or leading a diverse team at home, you don't have to master the nuances of every culture you encounter. With cultural intelligence, or CQ, you can lead effectively in any context. Featuring fresh research, case studies, and statistics on the ROI of improving your CQ, this new edition of Leading with Cultural Intelligence details a powerful, four-step model for becoming more adept at managing across cultures: drive - boost your motivation for and confidence in interacting with other cultures; knowledge - understand the relevance of differences in religion, values, norms, and languages; strategy - plan ahead for unfamiliar cultural settings, but remain flexible if actual experience differs from expectations; and action - successfully adapt your behavior to each situation. With Leading with Cultural Intelligence as your guide, you'll be able to thrive in any business environment - whether it's across the world or in your own backyard.

While "missions" used to be the territory of experts and missionary professionals, globalization has made the issues and needs of our world accessible to average Americans. Many American Christians feel overwhelmed by the scope of the brokenness in the world and conclude all they can do is go on with their lives. Others respond by giving and praying, and still others want to do more. What Can I Do shows that global mission is something we all can be part of in tangible ways. And while that might include going on a short term mission trip or providing financial support, there are many more ongoing and holistic forms of engagement. This book helps readers see that the roles they already have - business leader, scientist, teacher, student, parent, or neighbor - can provide ways to engage in global mission. Mission is what we were created to do. It includes evangelistically calling people to follow Jesus wherever we go, whatever we do. But it's more than that. This book will help us explore the way our ordinary, everyday tasks of work and life can be part of God's mission to heal a broken world.
