Dr. Hawkins opens this lecture with thoughts about the mind, positionality, and dedication to truth. A person has to be willing to sacrifice everything and anything for the truth. He explains how "wantingness" causes misery and that one’s point of view contributes to that state. Stating the truth usually upsets some people. He discusses the spiritual ego, our perceived faults, what to do about them in order to become "bulletproof", and what brings us joy. In contrast, he talks about hatred in the world today and the actions that come out of it. The Way to God: Radical Subjectivity: The 'I' of Self - February 2002

In this lecture, Dr. Hawkins provides a lot of insight about the ego, about emotions, and about being “wronged” and the grim satisfaction we get from all that. The payoff gets bigger as we evolve spiritually, and then the tempter of the ego appears to constantly test us. He explains what the source is and why it stays with us. With humor, Dr. Hawkins gives examples of the role of the ego in our lives and helps us to see how we are affected by it, what we get out of it, and where we would be without it. He also suggests that we let go of the seeming benefits of the ego for some higher purpose. Therein lies the challenge! He explains that we have to relinquish the ego in order to reach the experience of the Presence of God. Yes, that is a very frightening thought and something that we cannot understand at first, but Dr. Hawkins explains the benefits of doing so and the steps to take in order to reach that state. Part of the journey relates to faith, research, experiencing, and surrendering the known for the unknown. He shares his personal experiences with those steps, which makes it easier for us to understand. He also explains the concept of Karma and the role it plays in our lives. He discusses the decisions of the spiritual will in relation to Karma and how the two are intertwined. The Way to God: Causality: The Ego's Foundation - January 2002
Summary
Dr. Hawkins introduces his first lecture in the Sedona Series with an explanation of why he wrote the book, Power vs. Force. He wanted to provide a way for people to move from the everyday linear world of black and white to the less familiar, abstract, nonlinear world without thinking they were moving into a mystical, imaginary realm. He wanted to enlarge the paradigm of reality of science so the intelligent person could comprehend the work and conclude that there was something to look at in the nonlinear domain. Dr. Hawkins talks about the shift in psychiatry in which everything has to be evidence based and how the Map of Consciousness provides that documentation, along with the response of the human being to the field of consciousness. He further explains the development of the Map of Consciousness and discusses the various levels and characteristics of human consciousness, from below 200, where everything is detrimental to life, to above 200, where that which is true, valid, pro-life, and spiritually whole contributes to life. Dr. Hawkins discusses the higher levels as well and how a true guru or teacher has to calibrate over 540, the level of Unconditional Love. He gives a brief description of what may be experienced at the levels above 540, and on up to 1,000.The world of duality is discussed and how the research seemed to bring up a polarity similar to good and evil. At first it seemed like two different worlds, but then it was found that creation is continuous and evolutionary. Also, there are no “either-or’s” but instead variations in qualities, e.g. more or less light. He further explains the Map of Consciousness and the characteristics and experiences that occur along the scale. He delves into the concepts of positionality and duality and the roles they play in our lives. He also explains how to change our perceptions. Dr. Hawkins then talks about the misunderstandings surrounding the concept of causality and the perceptual blocks they create. They prevent us from seeing what is actually going on and block our experience of the Presence of God. Spiritual awareness has to do with understanding the nature of Creation and of God. He emphasizes that it is essential for spiritual teachers to calibrate above consciousness level 200, the level of truth and courage. In the Newtonian Paradigm of reality and our society, there is a “this” causing a “that.” Consequently, becoming enlightened in this world is difficult because the mind, the ego, and feelings are barraged continuously by a paradigm of reality that is based on duality. Dr. Hawkins says that consciousness research is the only approach he knows to really investigate the reality behind the world’s teachings.He states that the purpose of the lectures is to share how we come to the knowingness of the presence of God. He talks about the nature of God in a way that is easily understood and defines the spirit, the field in which it moves, and the effect of Karma. He lets us know that life is continuous, that its source is Divinity, and provides the proof. This lecture provides the foundation for all the lectures that follow and is very helpful for understanding the advanced information. In this lecture, Dr. Hawkins presents some basic ideas, such as the fact that everything happens spontaneously and that nothing causes anything. Everything is an automatic consequence of the energy field. He shows how the power of one’s intention brings about manifestation, and how potentiality becomes actuality in and of itself because of the field. He explains the use of kinesiology, why people may not believe in it, and how the infinite field of consciousness instantly registers truth. He discusses the calibratable level of consciousness at birth, its relationship to karma, karmic inheritance, and how we can undo past karma in this lifetime. Dr. Hawkins talks about love as a quality of divinity; about guilt; and about how to advance one’s level of consciousness. He explains the nature of resistance and spiritual truth. People cannot tell truth from falsehood and are simply doing what they think is good. He discusses the nature of power vs. force; that there is no opposite to truth; the nature of the Heisenberg principle and its relation to the process of intention as well as collective intention. Devotional Nonduality Intensive: Alignment
Summary
Dr. Hawkins explains that everything is spontaneously being what it is and that nothing is causing anything. He talks about the pathway of negation and the Void, and goes into detail about karmic inheritance and how it affects our lives. Of great benefit is the information he supplies about relationships and the levels upon which they may exist, including the qualities of horizontal and vertical relationships (i.e., alignment vs. involvement). He goes into detail about the ego, how it loves suffering, loss, hatred, and even grieving, and the “juice” it gets out of that. We learn why it is so difficult to get out of that negativity and addiction to it. He then states that we have only one problem preventing us from reaching enlightenment and talks about the tenacity of the ego and why it is so hard to transcend it. Dr. Hawkins informs us about guilt, hate, and anxiety and that people hold on to those emotions because of the payoff. He states that there is really only one way out of the hold the ego has on us. He addresses humility, using kinesiology to determine what makes us go “weak” and to avoid it. At the end of the lecture, he answers questions from the audience regarding challenges that come up on the spiritual path, karmic blockages, the availability of spiritual growth opportunities, suffering to achieve spiritual growth, and kinesiology.
