Empower

Summary

How do you lead a movement? Movements that unify millions and sustain national relevance over the course of decades are hard to come by. They’re even harder to plan and predict. But that is exactly what happened and is captured with stunning detail in this book. In Empower, Jeff Martin drills in to four key principles that can unlock a volunteer-led movement. They were unearthed from an event he founded in 2004 called “Fields of Faith” that focused on giving ordinary people the microphone. It has impacted and united millions of people, thousands of volunteers, and countless community organizations.  Each year, over 250,000 people gather on one night in communities across the country. How was he able to lead this movement? How can you lead a movement? Empower will give you the four keys - value, simplicity, commonality, and ownership - to lead a movement of your own.

Business Mulligan

Summary

Technology is changing the way business is done and it's coming at a cost to business owners. We're being pulled deeper and deeper into the day-to-day activities of our businesses. It seems the more new tools and tricks we try the more layers of complexity, confusion, and chaos we add. We've all heard the expression, "Work on your business, not in your business". Business Mulligan: How to Give Your Business and Your Life a Second Chance in a Changing World guides today's small business owners out from under the hoods of their business and back into the driver's seat, where they belong. It starts by looking at your business in a different way: in systems and parts, rather than as a whole. Then, it's about simplicity. We live in a very exciting time, but all the changes make running a business very complicated. Our businesses mirror the world. When times were simpler, running a business was simpler. But, today, we hardly understand our businesses much less the world. As we begin to look at our business systems, we understand that each system asks very simple questions: Attraction - Who? Who is our ideal customer? Conversion - When? When do we ask for the sale? Delivery - What? What value do we provide? Systems - How? How do we operate profitably? Culture - Why? Why do we do what we do? Administrative - How much? How much do we keep? Personal - Where? Where am I most needed right now? Further, each system is made up of parts - individual parts - that depend on one another to run smoothly. As business owners, it's our responsibility to work on our businesses. We can't do that if we're overwhelmed and trapped in the trenches. By looking deeper - at the part level - we can better determine what's working well, what needs repair or what needs replacement.

How to Really Learn a Language

Summary

Where are all the bilinguals?   Have you ever felt like you are no good at learning foreign languages? Have you invested time and money into classes, courses, or mobile apps, yet with little success?  You’re not alone. There are millions of people out there just like you. They believe that some people are simply gifted at learning languages, while the rest are destined to struggle. Allow me to change your mind, if you will.   I’m a master certified Spanish court interpreter, with no college degree. I’ve never lived in a foreign country, but I’ve managed to become fluent in several languages, and I didn’t start learning foreign languages until I was an adult. I’ve been a polyglot for many years, and I’ve only met a handful of people ever that can do what I do. However, I’ve met hundreds and hundreds of people who have taken foreign language classes and/or have bought language courses that have never truly learned a foreign language. My mission is to change that.  I’ve spent the last 11 years writing a book just for you. My philosophy is simple. Language learning is something that we naturally do at first, with our native language, yet becomes a mystery when we approach learning a second one. In my opinion, it shouldn’t be a mystery at all. We learned our first language so naturally and flawlessly, so it should be easier to learn a second one. Yet, because of the approach we take, most people never become fluent in a second language. My goal is to open up your eyes to see that everything we need to know about learning foreign languages is already within us, in our experience that we gained from learning our first language.
