Instead of traveling to Russia with mom and dad, 10-year-old Alex and his nine-year-old sister Katie are stuck in a creepy old house with their weird Aunt Karina. Alex thinks that his summer is ruined. But then the kids discover a portal that leads them into the magical world of the Firebird. That world quickly becomes dangerous. The kids search for the way back, but instead find Baba Yaga, the Russian witch. “We got a little lost,” Alex says to Baba Yaga. ”And now you may get a little eaten!” she responds. Can Alex and Katie get back to their aunt's house? Or will they become Baba Yaga's latest victims?

Growing up, I loved Russian fairy-tales, but when I tried reading them to my son, in Arizona, he wasn't impressed. The stories felt foreign and dated to both of us. But I still loved the characters and the magic of these fairy-tales, so I decided to write a series aimed at American kids. The first book is Firebird: Adventure One. This is the second book, where ten-year-old Alex and his nine-year-old sister Katie have just returned from their first adventure into the land of Russian fairy-tales where they met Baba Yaga, the Russian witch, and got a magical feather from the Firebird. Now, Alex wants to know what Aunt Karina's old book says about the real ending to the Firebird story. "You and Katie created the real ending. The stories and legends are alive and always changing. And you can change their outcomes," Aunt Karina says. Excited, Katie finds another story to change. A young man named Emelya is imprisoned by an evil tsar. Alex and Katie rush to the rescue. When they stop by a log cabin to ask for directions, a creature in a sheepskin's coat with green furry hands opens the door. His emerald eyes shine a bright green light right at Alex and Katie. Is he a friend or an enemy? Will Alex and Katie find Emelya? Will they return safely to Aunt Karina's house?

Nikolai Volkov is a combat veteran of the Chechen war with a passion for finding truth and doing the right thing. His father is a decorated military hero, and Nikolai had planned to follow in his footsteps until the dramatic social and political changes in Russia made it impossible. In the new Russia, Nikolai embarked on a different career and soon became the best bodyguard in the prestigious Centurion Personal Protection Agency in Moscow. Nikolai prides himself on his ability to use his analytical skills, as well as his military combat skills when protecting his clients. His latest case promises to challenge his analytical skills: He’s asked to help design safe rooms for a prominent client in a wealthy suburb of Moscow. On the way to the construction site, a brutal murder changes his plans. Now, Nikolai has to find the killer and prevent him from taking more lives. The city investigator, a smart woman with impressive experience, is assigned to the case. As the two of them dig through the evidence, they realize that the motives behind the murder are more complicated than they had imagined. As the case grows darker and more urgent, with more people put at risk, even Nikolai’s investigative skills and quick thinking may not be enough to catch the killer, prevent more deaths, and save his own life. There are two novels in the Russian Bodyguard series: Gray Shadows (Book One) and In the Crosshairs (Book Two). Each novel is a complete story and can be heard out of order.
