August 2014 endet das Leben, wie Nadia Murad es kannte. Truppen des IS überfallen ihr jesidisches Dorf Kocho im Norden Iraks. Sie töten die Älteren und verschleppen die Jüngeren. Kleine Jungen sollen als Soldaten ausgebildet werden. Die Mädchen werden verschleppt und als Sklavinnen verkauft. An diesem Tag verliert Nadia Murad 44 Angehörige. Für sie beginnt ein beispielloses Martyrium: Drei Monate ist sie in der Gewalt des IS, wird Opfer von Demütigung, Folter, Vergewaltigung.
