God's Purpose for the Family

Summary

"And God created man in his image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Genesis 1:27). The concept of family had its origin with God at the very beginning, when He created man, for God had an important purpose for the family to fulfill. Indeed, He will use the family of God - the church - to defeat His enemy, Satan. And hence, God's enemy is pouring out his fury to destroy the family. Thank God, through the redemptive work of Christ, we Christians are to have our families restored to God's original purpose. This short series of messages, delivered by the author before a gathering of God's people in Washington, DC, beginning in September 1974, is therefore being published as a way of helping Christian believers elsewhere to see and carry out God's purpose for the family. May the Lord bless all who listen to this volume.

But We See Jesus: Messages on the Life of the Lord Jesus Christ

Summary

Christianity is Jesus Christ. It is not the teaching, doctrine, system, or organization of Christ. Rather, it is Jesus Christ himself. We need to see him as God sees him. Yet this can only come about by revelation from above. The Holy Spirit will reveal Jesus to us. And when we do see him as God sees him, we will fall down and worship. Such, then, is the intent of this series of messages, whose overarching theme is best summed up in the author's choice of title to the entire series: "But We See Jesus" (Hebrews 2:9a). All 19 messages were delivered by the author before a Christian audience in Richmond, Virginia, over a three-year period, commencing in the year 1992. May God use this volume to inspire his people to see the Savior and Lord we have, so that we may truly worship him with all our hearts and love him with all our heart, mind, will, and strength. Jesus alone is worthy!

The Splendor of His Ways

Summary

Why do the righteous suffer? This is an age-long dilemma. The human soul agitates over it. Man's wisdom endeavors to solve it. But God alone has the right answer. In the book of Job, God reveals the hidden purpose behind the suffering of the righteous. For suffering is unto sonship. Through suffering, we grow into such a living knowledge of God that delivers us from self and fills us with Christ. Let all who suffer find comfort and strength in listening to The Splendor of His Ways.

Nehemiah

Summary

Long ago, a remnant of the children of Israel returned to Jerusalem. Through great difficulties, the temple was rebuilt. However, the complete restoration of the testimony of God also included the rebuilding of the city and its wall. From the first return of the remnant under Zerubbabel to rebuild the temple, until the time that Nehemiah rebuilt the wall and set the city in order, took about 100 years. During this period of restoring the wall, there was a great danger of all they had accomplished being destroyed. The wall and the city had to be rebuilt. Then the full restoration would be complete. In the same way, God’s call to his people today is to come out of the complexity and the perplexity of the world (Babylon) and return to the simplicity that is in Christ (Jerusalem), gathering together unto his name. What is the concern of your heart today? Is it that since you live comfortably, you do not care for the testimony of Jesus? True, it will be difficult for those who want to maintain the testimony of Jesus. There will be many afflictions and reproaches. Your brothers and sisters are already on the verge of spiritual annihilation. Do you give yourself to prayer for the Lord’s testimony? Do you plead with God on their behalf? If you do, I believe the burden of the Lord will come upon you - as with Nehemiah - to go back and rebuild the wall and city. Oh, that God’s people may be built up together for the testimony of Jesus and the glory of God!
