Summary

This story is a glimpse of rural life in 1976, Holt County, Nebraska. Joe Bauer, a dyslexic, 12-year-old boy, watched a dust-devil of activities take place around his family’s failing cattle ranch. Surrounded by interesting characters; his hardworking mother, his range detective father, the county sheriff, a local priest, and a worshiper of Satan - he witnessed the presence of evil and nearly died twice. In the end, it would be one of the best times of his life.
