My friend and protector. The one person in my untried world who also heard the Whispers. Daen. Friend or foe - we know not which. That he is powerful and beautiful is beyond argument. Ryuichi. An Unexpected Family

Summary

Between 1850 and 1930, around 250,000 abandoned and orphaned children traveled from the East Coast of the US to various cities and towns throughout the nation on what would be known as the orphan trains. Most came from New York City.  Posters were placed around town advertising "Homes Wanted for Orphans"; usually a committee was formed to help facilitate the adoption. These children were supposed to be adopted and treated as family members, but this was not always the case however, and sometimes they were placed in less than ideal circumstances. Despite this loosely structured plan, many children did find loving homes and people who cared for their needs.

The Goat Children

Summary

When Keziah’s grandmother, Oma, is diagnosed with dementia, Keziah faces two choices: Leave her family and move to New Winchester to care for Oma, or stay in New York City and allow her grandmother to live in a nursing home miles away.  The dementia causes Oma to be rude and paranoid, nothing like the woman Keziah remembers. Each day becomes a greater weight and love a harsher burden. Keziah must keep Oma from wandering off or falling, and try to convince her grandmother to see a doctor as her eyesight and hearing fail, but Oma refuses to believe anything is wrong. Resentful of her hardships in New Winchester, Keziah finds herself drawn to Oma’s ramblings about the Goat Children, a mythical warrior class. These fighters ride winged horses, locating people in need, while attempting to destroy evil in the world. Oma sees the Goat Children everywhere, and as Keziah reads the stories Oma wrote about them, she begins to question if they really exist.

Big Spring Ranch Brides - Anna

Summary

What if you were given the opportunity to travel with an orphan train to be adopted by a new family? Anna travels on an orphan train with 18 other children to a small town in Texas. She is taken in by an older couple that owns the town’s General Store. Even though her new family isn’t cruel to her, they expect her to work for her keep, and they definitely don’t give her the love she desperately wants. When she is an adult, she answers a mail-order bride ad she sees in the local newspaper, and agrees to marry a rancher, the oldest of three brothers. When she arrives, she finds that the situation is not what she was led to believe. Anna agrees to be their housekeeper while the mess is straightened out. Will Anna be able to marry and have the family she has always desired or will she need to return to Texas? If you like Historical Western Romances, you’ll love this series!
