Howard Lester, a young scientist, becomes obsessed with the problem of death and begins a series of unconventional experiments aimed at increasing human longevity. In the course of their research, Lester and his friend Sir Henry Littleway make a startling discovery: A simple, harmless operation on the brain's prefrontal cortex results in vastly expanded consciousness and mental powers. After undergoing the procedure themselves, Lester and Littleway develop remarkable abilities, including "time vision", a means of seeing backwards into time. They begin by looking at the relatively recent past - the 18th century and Shakespeare's England. But they soon find they can see much further back, to the days of Stonehenge and the Mayans, and even earlier. But as they get closer to uncovering the beginnings of human existence, they make a terrifying discovery. Something ancient and immensely powerful, long asleep, has been awakened by their activities, and it is determined to stop them at all costs. In The Strength to Dream (1962), Colin Wilson had criticized the works of H.P. Lovecraft, the American writer of weird tales, which led to Lovecraft's publisher August Derleth daring Wilson to write one better. This novel The Philosopher's Stone (1969) was the result of a fascinating blend of science fiction, horror, and philosophy, told within the framework of Lovecraft's mythos. Praise for the book: "An important literary achievement." (Library Journal) "Colin Wilson has a narrative style that can make the pursuit of any idea seem like exciting detective work." (The Times) "Colin Wilson's best novel to date." (The Spectator)

George Washington Gayle is not a name known to history. But it soon will be. Forget what you thought you knew about why Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. No, it was not mere sectional hatred, Booth’s desire to become famous, Lincoln’s advocacy of black suffrage, or a plot masterminded by Jefferson Davis to win the war by crippling the Federal government. Christopher Lyle McIlwain, Sr.’s The Million-Dollar Man Who Helped Kill a President: George Washington Gayle and the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln exposes the fallacies regarding each of those theories and reveals both the mastermind behind the plot, and its true motivation. The deadly scheme to kill Lincoln, vice president Andrew Johnson, and secretary of state William Seward was Gayle’s brainchild. The assassins were motivated by money Gayle raised. Lots of money. 20 million dollars in today’s value. Gayle, a prominent South Carolina-born Alabama lawyer, had been a Unionist and Jacksonian Democrat before walking the road of radicalization following the admission of California as a free state in 1850. Thereafter, he became Alabama’s most earnest secessionist, though he would never hold any position within the Confederate government or serve in its military. After the slaying of the president, Gayle was arrested and taken to Washington, DC in chains to be tried by a military tribunal for conspiracy in connection with the horrendous crimes. The Northern press was satisfied Gayle was behind the deed - especially when it was discovered he had placed an advertisement in a newspaper the previous December soliciting donations to pay the assassins. There is little doubt that if Gayle had been tried, he would have been convicted and executed. However, he not only avoided trial, but ultimately escaped punishment of any kind for reasons that will surprise readers. Rather than rehashing what scores of books have already alleged, The Million-Dollar Man Who Helped Kill a President offers a completely fresh premise, meticulous analysis, and stunning conclusions based upon years of firsthand research by an experienced attorney. This original, thought-provoking study will forever change the way you think of Lincoln’s assassination.

Robert the Bruce, scion of one of the most noble houses in Scotland, is propelled into rebellion by the "Hammer of the Scots". Edward Plantagenet, king of England, who uses Scotland's inherently unstable clan system to seize power and claim the disunited country as his own. Since Netflix has produced a movie for a 2018 release entitled Outlaw King, and the nature of a movie is necessarily time-limited, this audio rendition and the books in the Rebel King series (named by us in the 1990s) that greatly expands the story and explores this famous warrior king of the early 1300s who took his enslaved country back from their English oppressors. The material covered is considered historical fiction, as we did follow the historical records but then we added a bare sprinkling of fictional characters and since we knew nothing that was said in those days, the dialogue has been written to drive the events, to develop the various characters, and progress the arc of the story. The events themselves make a magnificent story about the people. It is about love, hate, and all the in-between emotions and proclivities. The story is full of action and medieval war battles. It is a part of history about the actual times and the actual people who drove the events into the history books. Listen to the life that was not Hollywood templated that was read here by Roger L. Jackson, a movie voice you no doubt have heard before and other professionals of the highest quality available who brought this production together for you. Thank you.

Sadly Mary E. Bakewell only ever wrote one book: True Fairy Stories, which was published in 1902. However, she lived a very inspirational life, most of it in the frontier west during the 1920s. The little town she lived in was poverty stricken, and Mary did her best to bring relief, solidarity, and a little pleasure to the people of the community, and each year held a Christmas party for all the children.
Mary was also a bit of a rebel and instituted services, quite often having to defend her actions against the Bishop. But despite the poor conditions, harsh blizzards, a smallpox epidemic, and initial unfriendliness of the townsfolk, Mary eventually came to love the home she had chosen, and ran a Sunday school along with participating in the Women's Guild. So it is with great pride that Goatshead Castle Productions presents: True Fairy Stories written by Mary E. Bakewell - first published in 1902. This book has long been out of print....
Although, I cannot for the life of me think why. For it teaches young minds the importance of nature and the wonderful creatures we are fortunate enough to share this world with. Everyone can all enjoy and learn from the stories within this audiobook, even an old witch like me!
