But very soon, Heather's main worries would actually be dragons, war, and the past as she found herself inexplicably sucked into a mysterious book she found in her attic. A book that plunged her hundreds of years back in time, and to a time where shape-shifting dragon people ruled the world. When Heather found herself captured by them, she feared the worst, but that was before the handsome Duke, Peter Mallerk, saved her life and promised to get her home. But was Peter really going to help Heather get back to where she belongs? Or was he going to use the pretty red head for his own personal pleasure?

The once elegant and stylish hotel, the Excelsior, located on the shores of the Irish Sea in Blackpool, has sadly become just a mere shadow of its original grandeur. When a mysterious death of a guest in 1925 in room 33 was covered up by the original owner, no one would have predicted it was just the start of a series of similar incidents. The Excelsior was run by numerous owners over the subsequent years, but eerily, "the curse", as it became known locally, remained firmly attached to room 33. No one who ever checked in to that room ever made it out alive. In fact, within just a few hours of occupancy, all guests there were found to be dead, all with horrendous and hideous grimaces of fear and terror on their faces. When Anne Cartwright, the current owner, took over the Excelsior, all it took was one such incident for her to permanently close the room to anyone again, including the staff at the hotel who were more than willing to oblige the decision. Meanwhile, down in Southampton, Chloe Riddell has received the distressing news that her beloved grandmother, Emily, has taken a downturn in her health and may not live for much longer. It is the Christmas holiday season, but knowing this may be her last chance to see her grandmother, Chloe heads off to the convalescent home, also in Blackpool, to see her. In her urgency to get to Blackpool, Chloe neglected to consider that finding a place to stay on Christmas Eve may be impossible. After multiple failures to secure lodging, Chloe finally convinces Anne Cartwright to give her the one remaining room at the Excelsior...room 33. Despite serious warnings from both Anne and others in Blackpool, Chloe just laughs off the whole thing, wondering how otherwise intelligent and rational people can believe the absurd superstitions that had hung around the room for so long. It seems a normal hotel room when Chloe first checks in, but she soon begins to experience all manner of inexplicable and bizarre goings-on in her room....

Janae and Ken are part of the remnant of humanity which lives in Dome 17, surrounded by the radioactive, toxic wasteland of a dead Earth. The leadership of the dome has sent out adventurers to explore the other domes, but all they have found are failed domes, and deadly ruins. Some of those adventurers have self-terminated upon return from those grueling missions. Only Dome 17 survives, but now, Dome 17 is facing its own failure. Looking to history, they come up with a plan to try to find the seven lost generational colony ships which left Earth a century before. Those ships had biomes filled with the flora and fauna of Earth, as well as people who would live all their lives inside those ships. However, the colony ship program was considered a failure. Nothing is known about the condition of those huge ships, but they might offer a possible way to save the people of Dome 17. If they still exist. If they can be found. If the people can somehow get to one of them. The Committee designs a plan using two unproven technologies, faster-than-light scout ships - which can only carry two people - and teleportation. Will this attempt to find one of those colony ships work? What will be found? And, what threats are waiting, both from Dome 17, and from the Colony Ship Trailblazer? Janae and Ken set off to track down the Trailblazer, but will they find hope, or more death and destruction? This is book one of the Colony Ship Trailblazer series, another exciting sci-fi adventure set in John Thornton's Colony Ship Universe. A parallel series to the Colony Ship Eschaton, the Colony Ship Vanguard, the Colony Ship Conestoga, and Battle on the Marathon.
