Cyborg

Summary

A military science fiction thriller portraying a dystopian future of corporation greed, exploitation, and deadly secrets. It started as just another assignment.   Invited by big-hitting corporation ARTOK, combat journalist David Chambers is visiting the planet Parnassus to report on the “Human Enhancement Program” when he witnesses the unthinkable: the crash site of an alien ship.  The huge structure contains alien bodies and, more importantly, alien technology. But before Chambers can digest the scene, a rival corporation invades, and Chambers barely escapes with his life. Chambers retreats to the safety of his habitat of Orchard accompanied by Richter and his team, but he’s unaware of the extent of the corporation’s reach. On their arrival, they’re arrested. Mysteriously, only Chambers is released, but not before he’s threatened into silence  Richter, however, needs to be heard. His avatar reaches out to Chambers with harrowing tales of special forces, secret missions, violence, and trickery, resulting in the creation of half-humans, half-machines - cyborgs like himself. Richter recruits Chambers to tell his story and expose the terrifying truth of the corporations’ despicable plans for humanity. But with billions of dollars at stake, the two corporations can’t let the story break and will do everything in their power to keep their secrets safe.

The Drowned Throne

Summary

From the cesspool of Silas Island into the underworld of Two Town, the battle for Valaris continues. As epic storms batter the continent, men, women, and children succumb to soltakin touch and darkling blade. It is time to unveil the hidden half-race from under the sands of the Vall Peninsula; Valaris needs soldiers as much as she needs hope. It is time, also, to face Margus in his lair and throw down the gauntlet. Arrayed against his might is the small team of defenders, among them Taranis of the Guardians, Vannis of the Valleur, and Torrullin, a man with a dual nature, who as often fights the darkness rising within as he fights to save his world. Dreams and visions plague Torrullin; he battles to find himself when fate appears omnipotent, and love seems ever beyond his reach. The extinct Gosa volcano erupts as sacred sites implode to create earthquakes and tidal waves. A monster wave races to the site of an epic confrontation before an ancient and powerful golden seat. The Valleur Throne is about to assume ultimate status.

Thousand Eyes

Summary

For at least 10,000 years, something has been destroying alien civilisations across the galaxy. And now it’s coming for us. In the 25th century, the two biggest corporations in history are racing outwards, far beyond the boundaries of human space, scattering settlements and habitats as they go. And they’re making a lot of money doing it. But an ARTOK company station has been destroyed and all its inhabitants slaughtered, and now the Anglo-Russian company has been drawn into interstellar war with its historic rival Nippon Deutsch. The greatest trading opportunity of all time is nearly within their grasp, and it offers unimaginable wealth and power to the winner. But as they chase the great prize, the companies discover an alien starship entombed in the ice of a remote mountaintop, and abandoned cities buried under ancient jungles. Star-travelling species are being blotted out. Journalist David Chambers is terrified. He’s been working on a story about the fate of the hated cyborg soldiers. They disappeared from human history decades ago, but now they’re back, fighting in out-of-the-way wars across the minor planets. What is the mysterious operation thousand eyes? He’s told the security police everything he knows, and they don’t seem to care. But he realizes that if he tells anyone else, he’ll be killed. Plenty of other journalists have died recently. If he can keep out of the reach of the police, avoid being killed in any of the several wars which surround him, escape the corporate hitmen, and manage not to outrage the holy mercenaries of a resurgent ancient religion, then all Chambers has to worry about is a pack of monstrous carnivores. And his beer cellar is trying to murder him. Thousand Eyes is the second volume of JCH Rigby’s epic series The Deep Wide Black.

The Kinfire Tree

Summary

The war of eternal darkness is about to commence on Valaris. One battle is already behind the team, the disastrous events upon Ardosia, and now it is time to look ahead to the stability of Valaris, or the same fate awaits her. Hidden from humankind are 14 sacred Valleur sites, each built upon a node of power. Vannis of the Valleur advocates unveiling the sites to restore balance to the earth, balance he claims will aid them in the fight against Margus. The Darak Or has other ideas, and unleashes his soltakin.... In the north, Averroes discovers her true past, and she and Kylan run the gauntlet of the Maze. Nearby Kisha, Mordan, Cristi, and Samson prepare the clans of old for the darkness about to befall them. In the south, Vannis, Rayne, and Saska continue the unveiling process at the ruins of the White Palace, along with the charismatic little Falcon, Phet. Taranis and the Guardians delve arcane ritual in the Dome to find answers to the ending of soltakin, and wonder when the dara-witch Infinity will bring her Darkling Horde into the mix. McSee, unmasked as traitor, meets the crazy Lanto and they hatch a bold plan, one set into action during an epic summer storm, involving a pirate and ancient loot. Rayne begins the internal battle that will change all. It began for him on Ardosia when he touched Vannis only to release blue sparks between them. The ruling house is almost extinct. How, therefore, does a Valla recognize the blood for the future? By the blue flame of trebac. Kinfire. The legendary Vannis is kin to him, but there is more in store for Rayne. The kinfire tree is larger with branches hidden in its foliage, a condition Rayne suspects, a greater truth he must reveal. Will this truth aid against the approaching darkness?

Summary

There is a darkness coming ... Rayne of the Mantle searches for the magician Aven to confirm rumours of the dara-witch Infinity’s presence on Valaris. He isn’t prepared for what he actually finds. The Dragon Circle

Summary

Valarians prepare for winter. Many died in summer, more will succumb to the cold. Only the heat of hope sustains them now. While waiting for the opportune time to strike, Margus secretly begins a different kind of campaign: soul-snatching. He rebuilds his army with the souls of Valaris.  Waiting for Margus to reveal his game plan, Torrullin steps blindly into Vannis’ final prophecy. It brings him a great gift; it also leads to terrible betrayal. In the aftermath, there is a change in the Valla Dragon’s place of residence, and Saska abandons Torrullin, leaving him cold and in need of diversion.  Belun of the Centuar is suspicious of the strange vanishings, and his suspicion drives Torrullin off world to find a ward against soul-snatching. He enters the forges of flame in search of the means to put an end to Margus’ reign of terror. The man who emerges is reformed of fire to unleash annihilating heat. Uninvited, Torrullin enters the Dome of his Guardian father Taranis, employing a darkened doorway most Guardians believed inoperative due to an ancient prophecy.  The Dragon Circle completes the forging of Torrullin Valla. The ambivalent Rayne’s tale began in the shades and shadows of a prejudiced world and moved into flame and fire, and now, a new future unveils.
