The Practice of the Presence of God (Annotated)

Summary

The Practice of the Presence of God has inspired people for generations. Brother Lawrence, also known as Nicholas Herman, was a devout French Carmelite friar of the 17th-century who’s aim in life was to simply love God with all his being and cultivate a sensitivity to the presence of God. The following audiobook is a compilation of conversations and letters by Brother Lawrence giving us insight into his personal relationship with God and his singular focus on union with the divine. The text was written over 300 years ago and later translated into English. Though some of the language may be dated, the heart of his message shines through with clarity, that the sensitivity to the presence of God in our lives and our love for Him is, and ought to be, our highest priority. Everything is second to love. Through his teachings, we learn how we ourselves can grow and mature in conversing with God on a daily basis. The impact of this simple, yet powerful audiobook can no doubt be life transforming. I hope that as you listen you find encouragement in the power and simplicity of prayer. May you be blessed in your pursuit of God and be transformed by the freedom we have in Christ to come directly to the Father in conversation and friendship.

Summary

Book 1: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, better known and loved today as simply The Wizard of Oz, is a tale that has been cherished by readers and listeners throughout the years. This timeless story has inspired Broadway shows, cartoon series, and many films over the past few generations. I hope that this book has inspired your sense of creativity and wonder as much as it has mine.  Lyman Frank Baum wrote the second book The Marvelous Land of Oz due to the numerous positive feedback letters he received from children after publishing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The children were so caught up in the story they wanted to hear more about the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. According to Baum, he promised to one little girl - who made a long journey to him and won his heart over - to write a sequel. Subsequently, this book is one of the 13 sequels in his collection.  I truly love these books. It brings up so many memories of childhood when I read it for the first time. I hope they continue to impact the lives of others the way it has impacted mine.
