Noom Diet Program for Weight Loss

Summary

Noom was founded in 2008 by two engineers, Saeju Jeong and Artem Petakov. Noom is a personalized health coaching company with its own application. The company's goal is to help reinforce positive decision-making to improve the lives and health of its users. The app allows users to lose weight, get in shape, and maintain health using a 100 percent virtual platform. After the user answers a few questions, Noom's algorithm formulates a weight-loss plan and associates them with a trainer who provides dietary information, support, and guidance. Noom offers a unique classification system for different types of food using a "traffic light" analogy: red, yellow, and green. The application sorts foods based on their calories per unit volume (caloric density). Low-calorie foods, such as fruits and vegetables are in the green category, lean meats and seafood are yellow, and various snacks, sweets, and sweetened drinks are classified as red. Noom recommends a daily calorie budget of eating 30 percent green, 45 percent yellow, and 25 percent red foods. Users can obtain a personalized calorie budget to formulate a weekly menu. Meanwhile, the application has group training sessions to motivate users and reinforce their commitment to weight loss. Without supervision, losing weight can be extremely difficult.
