The Gloaming: Part 3

Summary

Every morning Missy Lone Dove finds herself locked in her lonely embrace, both arms wrapped about her abdomen, hands resting restlessly between the curve of hip and waist. She crushes her solitude against her chest, a grotesque parody of a lover’s hold rendered even more pathetic by the fact that she is alone, and she is not alone. Sampson is in her head, but in her mind her bed lays cold and barren. But she doesn't have to worry about being lonely for long. Billy Blackhawk will be her knight in shining armor tonight, as well as her killer.

Blood Lite

Summary

Years ago, I used to sell some of my short stories to online horror and sci-fi magazines for extra pocket money. I didn't make much - usually $10 to $25 a pop - but it was extra money, and the stories were fun to write, too.  This little gem here was one of the $10-stories, as you will clearly see after you listen to it. In all honesty, I considered it to be more like a $5-story, but wasn't going to turn down an extra five bucks. LOL Anyway, this little gem is a crossover between the new wave vampire mythos and nasty aliens from another galaxy, both of them converging in the wrong place at the wrong time - at least for the alien, that is.  Vampire hookers are not very forgiving if you tread on their turf.

The Gloaming, Part 1

Summary

Deep in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, this maximum-security penitentiary held some of the most vicious criminals known to the Western United States. One of them was Billy Black Hawk, a murderer and rapist, who was also a psychopathic genius and was master of mind control. Billy was not only a master of mind control, but he was also a fluent out-of-body traveler and shape-shifter. Sampson Faith, once a God fearing man of the cloth but now a cold blooded assassin, wanders the wastelands in search of the man who killed his beloved wife, Miss lone Dove, in cold blood. Little does he know that Billy Blackhawk, the man who killed Missy, will soon escape his musty prison cell and come looking to kill Sampson and claim his soul as well.

My Best Friend Forever

Summary

I believe, at times, a lot of people don't realize just how much pets can improve their lives. Pets make us laugh, make us feel better when we are sick or depressed. They make sure you are never lonely. They can even lower your stress levels, resulting in a lower risk of strokes, heart attacks, and other health problems.  Having pets in the house also teaches your kids about responsibility, and gives them a forever friend that makes them feel safe and secure while their parents are at work. There are so many advantages to having a pet, it's hard to understand why anyone wouldn't want a pet in the house - and treat them like a member of the family.  In my home, my cat, Tobey, IS a member of our family. He has proven to be irreplaceable in terms of providing all of us with love and affection and companionship. In my case - one of myself being the main caregiver for my ailing mother and having no real social life - he has proven to be not only my best friend, but a bright spot for my mother too, on those dark, dreary days when all hope seems lost for someone in her current physical condition.  Cats can sense illness, too. He knows that Mom is in bad shape, and the end could be near at any moment, and on the days are long and hard for her, there he is, lying by her chair or bed, watching over her.  At the end of each long, tiring day, when I am feeling so lonely, depressed, and, at times, ready to give up all hope, there he is, laying by my chair or sitting on the lamp table next to me or sitting in my lap purring up a storm, reminding me he is always there to comfort me and watch over me - just like I did for him so many years ago.  This is our story.

Once an Alcoholic, Always an Alcoholic?

Summary

One thing rings true about all substance abusers - whether it be alcohol or drugs or both - at one point in time, they will tell you two things: I don't have a problem. I can quit anytime I want to. Which, of course, is far from the truth. Once that demon is on your back, weighing you down day after day and week after week and month after month and year after year, the option you once had to stop on your own is long gone now. A person's addictions - and don't let anybody fool you into thinking differently, it is an addiction - can suck your very heart and soul dry of who you once were. You cannot stop on your own, either.  You need help.  You need God. But first of all, you need to admit you have a problem and stop fooling yourself into thinking you don't.

Summary

A centuries-old vampire is captured and tormented over his past, and it makes him realize how lonely and lovelorn he really is. He longed in his heart for the love of his Jezel, his sweet Jezel, whose sweet, dark soul was taken from her as she slept beside him, a wooden stake driven through her heart.

The Gloaming: Part 4

Summary

As Billy approached the parking lot, he could smell it: a dark scent, musky and wild and tangy on his taste buds as he breathed it in. The smell of wet fur and dried blood were what he identified next and knew he had been here recently.  It wasn't hard to track Sampson. He left dead hookers wherever he went. Sampson was much older now, but he was still very strong as an opponent. When revenge over a loved one's death was involved, Billy knew all too well that his opponent might defeat him just on general principle. Billy might have to shape-shift tonight.

Criminal Activity in the Hoosier Heartland

Summary

“She had been my first true love, that one you never really forget, the one that for all the fighting you do later on to suppress the fact she is still in your heart, you are doing so in vain.” So says Brian, the young man who was sure he'd found the love of his life - until death stole her away.  In the audiobook Criminal Activity in the Hoosier Heartland, author David Boyer offers up tales that have no happy endings, no Prince Charming or fairy-tale romances. Truth is much stranger than fiction, as these tales will prove beyond the shadow of a doubt.  In the author's world, deep, dark secrets lie beneath the friendly, normal facade known as Knox County, Indiana. Ghosts haunt the minds of God's special children; fledgling serial killers, who may be living right next door, hunt for prey on our city streets in plain sight; a young woman, doing time in jail for being a habitual offender, decides to follow a new path in life - only to realize the path she has chosen leads her stumbling into her worst nightmare; neighborhood bullies torment the innocent just for fun but end up crossing the line into murder; and star-crossed lovers living fairy-tale romances find out the hard way that love is the cruelest lie of all.  Based on real events yet fictionalized for dramatic effect, the characters in this audiobook will linger on in your mind long after you put the audiobook away - and the lights go out.

Sampson Faith lay in the darkness of the motel room, his hands, arms, and torso smeared with dried blood.

As he opened his eyes, his vision tunneled once more. He stared into the abyss and it stared back into him. He felt the hand of God within him for the first time in years...but it wasn't soon enough to save the life of his most recent victim.

The Things We Leave Behind

Summary

“The things we leave behind...for our future generations. God help them.”  So says a man named Davis, an aspiring writer who, after losing almost everything and everyone he has ever valued or loved, decides to write one last story before the Covid virus strain of 2023 claims his life as well - or the power and internet fails, whichever comes first.  What he doesn't realize is that his last story may very well save the lives of future generations to come - make them think about the things and people that are most important - and pave the way for a better world, with the lust for power, greed, and money all but forgotten, and God giving the people of Earth a second chance....

The Gloaming, Part 6

Summary

Now, Billy did believe in ghosts.  Missy, completely whole again, if only for a brief moment in time, moved into the real world so that he could see and hear her singing. She began with the song she chose five years ago, stepping out of the shadows into a convenient patch of moonlight filtering in through the dirty clouds above them, looming over them like big gray ghosts....

Exotica

Summary

Leo Baynes, a rich, charming entrepreneur, whose personal tastes tend to lean toward the “exotic”, was so intent on discovering the secret of his own wanderlust, he would travel to the very ends of the earth just to satisfy his own insatiable thirst for things most men would run from. That is, until he met Chio - the cat woman. Now, the very doorway was now opening to more than just a handful of humans who had ever known existed, much less tasted, pleasures that would redefine the parameters of sexual sensation - and other unknown terrors...

The Indie Filmmaker's Handbook

Summary

As an “amateur” filmmaker, I can't rightfully boast of being another Spielberg or Eastwood, but I know a really crappy movie when I see one. For example: the ever-present “final girl” chase scene at the end of most low-budget horror films. There is always a faceless killer you only see as a shadow or wearing a hockey mask and carrying some sort of weapon that just happened to be handy at the time, like a big knife or chainsaw or machete. And the killer is always chasing a bleach blonde bimbo with cruise missle boobs hanging out of her skimpy top, her loud, banshee-like screaming making your teeth grind as she proceeds to cry hokey, crocodile tears as the killer closes in on her. In reality? That is not the way it happens at all. I should know, from experience...

The Biggest Sinners of Them All

Summary

"I'm sorry Lord  You can try me Lord  If you think there's a way  I can repay what I've taken from you  My soul in is your hands" So sings music legend Johnny Cash, who, despite having been a rebel, a hell raiser, and one of the biggest sinners of them all, not only spent the last few years of his life as a devout Christian, but released some of the best music of his career as well. That's how we have always had a connection, you see. Not in a personal way, mind you. From afar. Although I would have given anything to meet him in person if I'd had the chance.  But he nonetheless had a very profound effect on my life.  Then again, I'm quite sure that Johnny had a very profound effect on a lot of lives.  How could he not? He was a very commanding presence to be close to. Whether he was singing or speaking, his voice alone commanded attention and respect.  His voice was like no other; his stand-alone bass-baritone vocal style was akin to rolling thunder in a violent storm, but if you stood by Johnny's side through it all, you just knew you could weather the storm together.  Come join me on our journey together, with tales of hope, inspiration, and redemption - and our long dark journey back into the light of God....

The Mind of Luther Biggs

Summary

Luther Biggs was an amazing young man. Born mentally challenged and with an IQ of only 70, he had a wonderful rapport with animals, could compose lovely poetry, and everybody who met him loved him dearly. But he was also birthed from tainted blood; Luther Biggs, Sr., a tall, powerfully built man with arms like 10-pound hams and the strength of an ox, was also prone to long alcoholic binges as well as bouts of extreme physical violence. Some folks said he was just plain evil personified - until a police sniper's bullet ended his life.  Can Luther Jr. ever escape his past, get rid of his own inner demons, and live a happy life? Only time will tell, because the ghost of his dead father now seems to be haunting the local woods nearby, and his son may be the only one who can end his reign of terror before it's too late.
