Summary

The mission Jonah White Eagle and his Fierce Eagle Company had taken was nearly impossible. Land on the middle of a 7.5-mile-high plateau, walk six miles to the edge of the cliff, and scale down the 39,000-foot-high cliffs to the foothills of the canyon below. Nothing to it, right? But then there was the swamp they had to cross, full of large indigenous life forms that thought Humans made good snacks. And the rivers, full of other killers, they would have to negotiate. And then there were the Xlatan, a race of six-legged killers guarding the target. A relatively new mercenary race, although one more established than the Humans, the Xlatan were supposed to be tough. Maybe not - quite - as tough as the Besquith, but close enough to give a number of other merc races the chills when they went up against them.  The Fierce Eagle Company only needed to traverse the planet, stay alive, and then surveil the operation the Xlatan were guarding to gather intelligence for the CASPer-equipped merc company that was enroute to destroy the operation.  The mission would have been nearly impossible, all on its own. There’s just one more thing, though, that they don’t know. They’ve been set up, and the heavy forces aren’t coming.  Still, anything is possible...When Eagles Dare.

Those in Peril

Summary

Fourteen outstanding authors. Fourteen worlds that never were. Throughout the human experience, historians have wondered, “What if?” What if Japan had been on the side of the U.S. in World War II? What if things had been just a little different in the Falklands? What if Russia had started World War Three? Wonder no more, for these questions, along with many others, are answered within the chapters of this book. Told by a variety of award-winning authors, like Sarah Hoyt, the 2018 Dragon Award Winner for Alternate History, and Kacey Ezell, the winner of the 2018 Baen Reader’s Choice Award, Those in Peril, deals with naval warfare that never happened in our world...but easily could have. The first book in the exciting new Phases of Mars anthology series, there is something for everyone inside! From sailing ships, to steam, to today’s modern aircraft carriers, Those in Peril traces several centuries of naval warfare...that wasn’t. From adding a psychic...to making a different choice of friend or foe...to something insignificant toppling a kingdom, this book has it, so come aboard and find out “what if” all of these things had changed history...just a little. You’ll be glad you did!

Tales from the Lyon's Den

Summary

Do you have what it takes to enter the Lyon's Den? From the outside, the Lyon’s Den doesn’t look like much; there isn’t even a sign. But mercs of all species know that if you head to Southwest Houston, near the starport, there’s a particular rundown strip mall that looks like it’s been abandoned for years. The glass door second from the south end of the strip is plastered over on the inside with blue paper, and the faint golden outline of a rampant lion is the only clue. The door is locked, of course, and beyond the door is nothing but a darkened hallway with a downward slope and a slight curve to it. Once you follow this curve far enough, you are greeted by two very large, very well-armed Lumar. “Welcome to the Lyon’s Den,” the larger of the two says without a translator and without a trace of an alien accent. “You know the rules?” Welcome back to the Four Horsemen universe, where only a willingness to fight and die for money separates humans from the majority of the other races. Edited by best-selling authors and universe creators Mark Wandrey and Chris Kennedy, Tales from the Lyon’s Den includes 18 all-new stories in the Four Horsemen universe by a variety of best-selling authors - and some you may not have heard of...yet.  Want to know what it’s like to do search and rescue while a battle is going on or what to do with that new manufactory you just won in a card game? Better learn the rules to the Lyon’s Den...and then step inside! Full list of authors includes: Michael J. Allen Quincy J. Allen Benjamin Tyler Smith James P. Chandler David Alan Jones RJ Ladon Eric S. Brown N.X. Sharps Chris Winder

The Long Fall

Summary

The saga continues, as an Emperor is seated and the threat from the Ca'cadasan Empire grows. Sean is back, saved from the grasp of the Ancient Enemy. And the Ancient Enemy is going full bore into the heart of all the human kingdoms. The Ca'cadasan Empire has it out for the humans. Their emperor had ordered the human species exterminated. But the humans got away, at least some of them, and established themselves 10,000 light years away in the Persius Arm. They were given a thousand years to establish themselves, but now the Ancient Enemy has found them, and they are still determined to wipe out over a trillion humans. Those humans are not so inferior in their tech as they were, only a couple of decades behind the Ca'cadasans. And they have the Donut, the enormous space station built around a black hole, a century in the construction. The Donut generates wormholes, the one major advantage of the humans over their enemies. There are other technologies on the horizon that the canny humans hope to gain advantage from - if they can keep their Fleet together long enough in the face of a mighty foe to deploy what they hope are war-winning techs. And in the capital of the New Terran Empire, plots are still alive. The plots of other governments, and of humans with their own agendas. Old enemies sharpen their knives, determined to catch the humans in disarray, while new allies come in on the human side. Will it be enough? Or will humanity be forced to flee once again?

Exodus: Empires at War: Book 3: The Rising Storm

Summary

They're back, and they want to end us. The Ca'cadasan Empire is at the gates, and they mean to destroy the human race. But we will not go quietly into the night. The saga continues as Sean Ogden Lee Romanov finds himself the uncrowned leader of the New Terran Empire. After 2,000 years, the old enemy has found them, but the humans are no longer the technologically inferior species they once were. A thousand years of Empire has forged a mighty military that has never lost a war. The Ca'cadasans are still slightly ahead in tech, are much larger, and have never failed in a conquest. There is dissension within as Parliament wants to put their own man in charge, and Sean is woefully unprepared for the task that awaits him. Time is running out, and if the Empire and the species are to survive the new man must be installed, and humanity must rally behind him. New technologies are on the horizon, the technologies on which the course of the war could turn, for better or worse. War rages across the stars on a galactic scale. The third book of a series that will span over a century of time and tens of thousands of light years of space.
