Summary

Previously published as Yeshua's Yoga, The Hidden Message of the Lost Gospel of Thomas unearths the central teaching of this ancient text. The Gospel of Thomas, re-discovered in Nag Hammadi Egypt in 1945, remains one of the most exciting archaeological finds of recent centuries. But how prepared are we to approach this text on its own terms? How accurately are we able to discover what it is saying, immersed as we are in 2000 years of Platonic and dualistic Christian orthodoxy? Thanks to the influx of Eastern knowledge and the new crop of Western teachers willing to re-approach their Christian tradition as the Eastern wisdom teacher that Jesus was, we may finally be able to see the meaning and philosophical structure of this once-beloved and truly remarkable Christian text. The Gospel of Thomas delineates the Way of Yeshua, a spiritual path that guides us through six clear movements of searching, finding, trouble, wonder, reigning, and rest. The resonance with classic Yogic paths makes this document the bridge many searchers need to reconcile and fully embrace the wisdom of both the East and the West.

Summary

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene was penned in what most scholars identify as the third century CE. Fragments have turned up over the years - tantalizing scraps of a once widely read and copied manuscript. Unlike some Gnostic texts that create a fantastic cosmology, this small piece of writing bridges vision and reality and captures the tension between disciples enmeshed in a patriarchal culture and a woman who is sometimes called the "apostle to the apostles".  It also explores the very real death of Rabbi Yeshua (we know this man by his Western name, Jesus) and the revelation of his continued spiritual presence in the consciousness of his disciples. It is curiously “alive” and filled with strong emotional content as well as metaphysical depth. I find myself in the good company of translators like Stephen Mitchell or Coleman Barks, working with ancient words and breathing a modern life into them. Because of this accessibility, the audiobook is a delightful resource for small group study. As with Yeshua’s Yoga, my work about the Gospel of Thomas, I have included a short essay about each translated passage, followed by an original poem that lives into the questions of the narration. Finally, there are five study questions to ponder with others or in a journal.   I’ve also included a short resource segment at the end of the audiobook to further your inquiry into this complex and beautiful piece of ancient writing. Scripture of any kind is meant to be chewed with your whole being. I am challenging you to relate the narration to your past and your own evolving journey in a way that is both deep and intimate. Enjoy your journey!

Easing into the Dhammapada: A Thematic Exploration with Questions for Further Study

Summary

Easing into the Dhammapada, the second title in the Easing into Collection, is designed as an appetizer, a crunchy, sometimes sweet and occasionally salty, introduction to one of the oldest scriptures of the Buddhist canon. Rather than working through the Dhammapada chapter by chapter, the author guides you through the verses thematically so you'll have a strong grasp of the content of the scripture. She cites where the great ideas appear and invites you into further study. Responsive poetry and at least five questions posed at the end of each chapter help stimulate small group interaction or individual journaling experiences.

Easing into the Bhagavad Gita

Summary

Easing into the Bhagavad Gita is the fourth book in the growing Easing Into Collection. Previously part of Easing into the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, this is a newly edited and updated short introduction to what is sometimes called the Hindu Bible. The work features 10 great ideas that define the core meaning of this rich piece of literature. Each chapter poses five questions designed to stimulate group discussion or journal writing, making the work useful in both community settings and for home-based comparative religion study while not overwhelming the curious comparative religion beginner. Ten original poetic responses round out this offering, creating ready-made invocations or closing words.
