Summary

A brand new comedy series from award-winning stand-up comedian Bridget Christie. As Bridget Christie struggles to come to terms with current world events - Kim Jong-un, the melting polar ice caps, the Brexit negotiations and Nick Knowles singing a cover of The Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun", she embarks on a comic quest for her Utopia - a way of living that will make her less anxious and enable her to have her first happy wee since the Brexit vote in 2016.  Bridget explores politically disengaging, spirituality, moving to the country and being super rich - to see if any of that will make her happier. Will not reading the papers, abstaining from all social media and not watching rolling news reports bring a smile to Bridget's face? Could yoga, Hinduism or becoming a nun be the answer to all her problems? What about living on a rural commune? Or auditioning for a lucrative TK Maxx commercial?  Or will life still be completely rubbish?  Recorded in front of a live studio audience at the BBC Radio Theatre.  Starring: Bridget Christie With special guests Mike Christie, Leyla Hussein, Sister Agatha & Fran Blockley Producers: Simon Nicholls and Alison Vernon-Smith Image credit: Idil Sukan A BBC Studios Production

Summary

The hilarious memoir from award-winning comedian Bridget Christie. When Bridget Christie walked into her local bookshop, she thought she'd come out with a book. And maybe a calendar of cute photos of cats (hopefully unlike you've just done). The last thing she thought she'd be leaving with was the need for a new wave of feminism and the start of an incredibly successful career. Up until that day, she hadn't realised that misogyny was like shiny leggings: it had been making an unexpected comeback (and for the record, neither do ordinary women any favours). From that moment, Bridget decided that the world should know that feminism is not embarrassing for women. In fact she managed to find the humour in it. And she wasn't afraid to answer the difficult questions all women wanted to know: why do fish stare at you during lap dances at Stringfellows? Do I need to have botox before heading to a pub quiz? Is bootylicious a new brand of feminism or an arse-flavoured bubble gum? A Book for Her is Bridget's story. But it's not only a book for her, it's also a book for you. And for him, if he's not a dick. Or even if he is, he could learn something that might make him not a dick. Oh, and what happened in that bookshop? You'll have to listen on to find out....

Summary

Comedian Bridget Christie noticed that misogyny, like shiny leggings, has made an unexpected comeback. But did it ever really go away? Bridget Christie Minds the Gap is a new stand-up comedy series on the state of British feminism today. In these four episodes, she asks why feminism became a dirty word and whether the modern British woman needs it. From a smell in a well-known bookshop to a pen designed especially for women, she looks at some of the more ridiculous things associated with being a woman. She also considers women and their day-to-day relationships with each other, via an organic herb puff snack, a church pew and a bag of dirty laundry. In addition, she ponders women's relationship with their bodies via a lap dance, TOWIE and a fish called Michael. Throughout the series, Fred MacAuley helps her remember some of the key incidents which brought her to an epiphany and a call to arms. Produced by Alison Vernon-Smith and Alexandra Smith. Bridget Christie Minds the Gap: Series 2

Summary

The complete second series of Bridget Christie’s award-winning series about modern feminism.

Bridget thought that she'd be able to put her feet up after her last Radio 4 series. She expected it to bomb. Sadly, it was a huge success and she's had to bang on about feminism ever since, perform two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh festival and win lots of awards. But she hasn't managed to single-handedly eradicate sexism so she's made a whole new four-part series about it for Radio 4.

In this series, Bridget asks who has the best sexism in the world, deconstructs a yogurt advert, and discusses why twitter is a sexist's natural habitat. She explains what happens when you wear an 'End FGM' badge on a popular TV show, and tries to find a feminist icon who doesn't want to replace the word 'feminism' with 'bootylicious'.

Series 1 of Mind the Gap won the Rose D’Or International Broadcasting Award for Best Radio Comedy 2014 and the Chortle Award for Best Radio Series 2014. Series 2 won the Chortle Award for Best Radio Programme 2015.

Summary

Nine short stories written and read by comedians, recorded live in front of an audience at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. 'May Contain Nuts' by Janey Godley: a woman glimpses her own mortality when she calculates that only 27 years separate her from her cantankerous father.  'The Hair of the Dead' by Sarah Millican: a moving (and very funny) short story about a compassionate undertaker's assistant.  'Gone Fishing' by Jon Richardson: a tale of love and betrayal set in a remote village in the Yorkshire Dales. 'The Woman Who Sniffed' by Susan Calman: a wry look at office politics, told with Calman’s characteristic humour and upbeat energy. 'Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Be Green' by Patrick Monahan: a tale that warns against paying too much attention to government crime statistics.  'On the Dot' by Shazia Mirza: a story featuring a certain Mrs Pims, who is always mysteriously late for everything. Then one day, the reason for her tardiness becomes apparent.... 'Stairlift Us Up Where We Belong' by Sarah Millican: a poignant and funny monologue exploring the tricky turning point in a woman's life, when she goes from being thought of as useful to becoming invisible.  'Spooky and the Van' by Joe Lycett: 17-year-old Julian is writing a blog. He's currently experiencing the weird limbo that lies between finishing school and starting university. As well as musing upon how his life might change, Julian's neighbor, nicknamed Spooky, is providing plenty of writing material and mystery....  'A Difference of Opinion' by Bridget Christie: When Bridget's husband is assaulted by the ghost of a long dead European leader, it highlights the vast differences in interpretation between a believer and an atheist.  Produced by Kirsteen Cameron.
