This guidebook, packed with wisdom, practical advice, resources, and encouragement, explores how moms can equip their sons with what they most need to succeed in life. Monica Swanson knew she'd tapped a heartfelt concern when nearly two million readers shared her blog post, "What a Teenage Boy Needs Most from His Mom". In this helpful audiobook, she takes mothers deeper into the insights they need for the boy-raising journey, covering topics from dealing with the daily influences of friends and technology to helping a boy grow to be physically, spiritually, and emotionally healthy. She also addresses learning and finding passions, perspectives on relationships and dating, and work ethics and money management. Each chapter features relatable stories, handy checklists, and practical advice based on a combination of research, experience, and biblical truth to guide and equip a mom in helping her son achieve his God-given potential. Praise for Boy Mom "In Boy Mom Monica Swanson offers readers practical advice and resounding hope that parenting our sons well through all seasons is not only possible but also enjoyable. This book is like an essential trail guide that I’ll refer to again and again in the beautiful and challenging adventure of motherhood." (Becky Keife, author of No Better Mom for the Job and mom of three spirited boys) "Monica Swanson is the friend we all need in our lives: humble, straightforward, warm, full of wisdom, and short on nonsense - and she knows her stuff like no one else. In Boy Mom she holds the bar high yet is forthcoming about her own struggles and imperfections. Inside these pages you’ll find deeply rooted biblical and practical advice along with calls to action when you don’t know where to start. The Boy Mom Manifesto at the end will not only inspire you but also make your heart swell." (Kate Merrick, author of Here, Now: Unearthing Peace and Presence in an Overconnected World) "Monica Swanson is the ultimate Boy Mom mentor. While her perspective on parenting is grounded in biblical wisdom, each chapter holds excellent practical tools for how to work out that wisdom on a daily basis in our homes. Of course, we know there aren’t formulas that will ensure we get it all right, but we also know that gleaning wisdom from women who have gone before us (and are still in the trenches with us) is invaluable in the wonderful adventure of helping boys become all God created them to be." (Jeannie Cunnion, author of Mom Set Free)

When the man she loved years ago returns to town, one young woman’s complicated past rises again, threatening to expose her well-kept secrets. If Maxine could put her finger on the moment when her life went into a tailspin, she would point back 20 years to the day her daddy died. She tells herself he’s the only person who ever really knew and loved her, and if he hadn’t left her behind, her future would’ve taken a different path. No absentee mother, no stepfather, no rebellious ripping and running during her teenage years. And no JD, who gave her wandering young heart a home, at least for a time. But that’s over and done with. All grown-up now, Maxine has pledged her heart and ring finger to Theodore Charles, the man she’ll promise to love, honor, and obey in front of God and everybody. At least that’s what she’s telling anybody who will listen. The only folks buying it are the dog and the readers of her column, however. Her best friend and family aren’t having it - not even Celeste, the double-bass-playing 13-year-old the community of Mount Laurel, North Carolina, believes is Maxine’s adopted sister. And apparently, neither is the newly returned JD, who seems intent on toppling Maxine’s reconstructed life. As her wedding day marches ever closer, Maxine confronts what it means to be really known and loved by examining what’s buried in her own heart and exposing truth that has never seen the light of day. A Christian fiction novel with a poignant story of romance, a search for truth, and a journey to redemption. For fans of Chris Fabry, Lauren Denton, and Charles Martin.

Bloomsbury presents This Promise of Change by Jo Ann Allen Boyce and Debbie Levy, read by Donna Allen. Recipient of a Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Honor Winner of the 2019 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Nonfiction A NYPL Top Ten of 2019 A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year In 1956, one year before federal troops escorted the Little Rock 9 into Central High School, 14-year-old Jo Ann Allen was one of 12 African American students who broke the color barrier and integrated Clinton High School in Tennessee. At first things went smoothly for the Clinton 12, but then outside agitators interfered, pitting the townspeople against one another. Uneasiness turned into anger, and even the Clinton Twelve themselves wondered if the easier thing to do would be to go back to their old school. Jo Ann - clear-eyed, practical, tolerant, and popular among both black and white students - found herself called on as the spokesperson of the group. But what about just being a regular teen? This is the heartbreaking and relatable story of her four months thrust into the national spotlight and as a trailblazer in history. Based on original research and interviews and featuring backmatter with archival materials and notes from the authors on the co-writing process.

When a Kentucky family’s debts become too much for them to bear, they decide that they will sell two of their slaves to a trader. Uncle Tom and Harry are both planned to be sold, but before that happens, Harry’s mother Eliza decides to run away with him rather than face losing him. The novel then follows two narratives: Tom being sold into slavery, and Eliza running away with Harry. Both stories intertwine at times as all of the characters strive for and struggle toward the hope of freedom. While often brutal and cruel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a realistic look at the horrors of slavery and the vast enormity of the struggles slaves went through, and was Stowe’s great effort at demonstrating to a wide audience the evils of their society and igniting empathy in readers’ hearts. Harriet Beecher Stowe was an influential American author and abolitionist. Uncle Tom’s Cabin is the most well-known of her 30 books, and was a great source of inspiration and energy for the anti-slavery fighters in the American Civil War. She turned her own personal tragedy of losing her young son into a catalyst for societal change, writing a story to bring to light the horrific loss and hurt being done to African Americans by slavery.
