Black College Football

Summary

Black College Football: The Game That Time Forgot will re-explain everything that you thought you knew about Black college football. No one has ever discussed the contribution of BCF to the culture or the game of football in this fashion.  Carlos Lock provides accounts of forgotten games, legendary players, and coaches, but most importantly, he instills the narrative that Black College Football matters. This book reinforces that belief and recognizes BCF contributions to African American Culture and the game of football.  This book provides a pocket guide to historically Black colleges and universities’ classic football games to include appropriate etiquette when attending. Lock also recommends solutions for HBCU administrators to chart a new course and revive the Black College Football fan base. Lock grew up a Jackson State fan and lived Southwestern Athletic Conference football for a decade. He attended Hampton University, a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school, where he noted the subtleties between the two conferences. He is more than equipped to tell this story; football is in his DNA.

Double Trouble

Summary

Frederique Toenes was the pastor of a small vibrant church in Jonestown, Virginia. His wife Dorothy and their teenage daughter Merlene were not as committed as he was to the faith, so on several occasions, Dorothy stirred up confusion with accusations, both in the home and in the church. Merlene began an intimate relationship with a neighbor Mr. Seatone, whose daughter Eastlyn lived a miserable life, trying to take care of her mother who was in deep depression over her husband’s disloyalty to her. Eastlyn and her mother did not know that it was the pastor’s daughter causing the trouble for their family so she tried hard to confide in Pastor Toenes, but his wife did not allow that to happen by posing violent threats. This triangle which involved lies, accidents, and death eventually brought both families to their senses and a time of forgiveness and repentance. Eventually, the church, which had become a place of chaos, was, once again, restored to the vibrant church they once had.
