Father Peyton of the Holy Cross Fathers wanted to inspire his country with a radio program. Footing the expense of the show himself, he arranged for some of the biggest names in radio and film to donate their services, and for a network to provide the broadcast time. The series that resulted featured heartwarming stories for audiences nationwide. The commercial breaks were filled only with an earnest, non-sectarian appeal for family prayer, reminding listeners that "The family that prays together stays together." The 18 episodes presented in this collection - comedies, dramas, and adventures - entertain; invite thought about foibles, faith and family; and feature an amazing array of stars including Natalie Wood, James Cagney, Tyrone Power, Bob Hope, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, Jim and Marian Jordan, Jack Webb, and Jack Benny, among many others. Any comedian can be funny in the studio, but domestic comedy is usually considered the province of actors who happen to do comedy. Jack Benny straddled the two roles for most of his career - the suave, witty master of ceremonies standing on stage in front of a curtain one moment; the put-upon householder tormented by a bumptious servant, eccentric friends, and troublesome neighbors the next. Jack, for all his high-flown show-biz pretensions, became everyone's favorite put-upon suburbanite. Mary Livingstone, Phil Harris, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Dennis Day, and Don Wilson all make regular visits to Jack's place, along with favorites like Mel Blanc, Frank Nelson, Artie Auerbach, and the Sportsmen Quartet - plus, some very special guest stars like Frank Sinatra, Boris Karloff, and Claudette Colbert! The 16 digitally restored and remastered broadcasts include: Jack Opens Swimming Pool for the Season, 04-18-43; Jack Offers Frank Sinatra Dennis' Job, 10-08-44; Jack Tries to Break His Contract with the Sportsmen, 11-03-46; I Was Condemned, 01-19-47; Jack Fixes a Phonograph and Buys a Baseball Team, 04-13-47; Jack and The Gang Listen to the World Series, 10-10-48; Jack Tries to Reach His Advertising Agency, 11-21-48; How Jack and The Gang Spent Thanksgiving, 11-28-48; Don Still Won't Sign His Contract 01-30-49; Don Signs a New Contract 02-06-49; Jack Takes Inventory of His Pantry and Has a Memory Loss, 10-02-49; Jack's Memory Is Lost and Found, 10-09-49; Recovering From a Cold, 10-16-49; Trimming the Tree, 12-25-49; Jack Gets the House Painted, 04-16-50; Beverly Wilshire Health Club, 01-30-55.

In the realm of unforgettable radio voices, there is one that stands head and shoulders above all others - one distinctive voice that could never be convincingly duplicated, one that brought its owner undreamed of success. It was a voice of sandpaper and gravel and rusty scrap iron, rasping over a nation's loudspeakers for more than 30 years. The one and only: Rochester. As Benny's valet, he was a servant, but he was never servile. From the start, Rochester had his boss sized up and knew exactly how to manipulate him to suit his own purposes. This collection brings you some of Rochester's finest moments with Jack, Mary Livingston, Don Wilson, Phil Harris, Kenny Baker, and Dennis Day. EPISODES INCLUDE: The Train Porter 03-28-37; Jack's Movie 06-20-37; Submarine D-1 02-27-38; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 12-07-41; Doc Benny's Minstrel Show 03-29-42; Host Orson Welles Takes Cast to His Movie Lot 03-21-43; Jack Pretends He Is Going to Brazil 10-31-43; Jack Has a Pet Camel 01-09-44; Joe Louis Acts as Jack's Bodyguard 11-11-45; Tire Trouble 11-25-45; Jack Gets A Haircut 11-10-46; Allen's Alley 05-25-47; Going to Denver for March-Of-Dimes Benefit 01-11-48; On the Train to Hollywood 01-25-48; Spring Cleaning 03-27-49; Sagebrush Soap Contest 03-12-50; A Cup of Coffee, a Sandwich and Murder 11-12-50; Grassreek Fluff 12-03-50; Jack Takes the Beavers to the Zoo 05-11-52; Jack Writes Thank-You Notes 12-27-53

Among radio comedy's most enduring features were its running gags - and few gags ran longer, or more hilariously, than the legendary feud between two of its great masters: Jack Benny and Fred Allen. For nearly 20 years the mere mention of Benny on an Allen program was guaranteed to produce an escalating laugh - just as bringing Allen up with Benny had listener in stitches at the mere anticipation of a response. This digitally remastered collection brings together the classic episodes that started it all - from first time the pair shared a microphone (in a skit ripe with references to Benny's musical skill), to Stuart Canin's performance of "The Bee," to the showdown that was supposed to end it once and for all. Join Jack, Fred, and their comical cohorts Portland Hoffa, Harry Von Zell, John Brown, Minerva Pious, Mary Livingstone, Kenny Baker, Don Wilson, Andy Devine, Phil Harris, and all the regulars from both Town Hall Tonight and The Jell-O Program. Includes rare episodes. Episodes Include: Town Hall Tonight 02-26-36 (Excerpt); Town Hall Tonight 12-30-36; The Jell-O Program 01-03-37; The Jell-O Program 01-10-37; Town Hall Tonight 01-06-37; Town Hall Tonight 01-13-37 (Excerpt); Town Hall Tonight 01-20-37; The Jell-O Program 01-31-37; Town Hall Tonight 01-27-37 ( Excerpt); The Jell-O Program 02-07-37; Town Hall Tonight 02-03-37 (Excerpt); Town Hall Tonight 02-10-37; The Jell-O Program 02-14-37; The Jell-O Program 02-28-37; Town Hall Tonight 02-24-37; Town Hall Tonight 03-03-37 (Excerpt); The Jell-O Program 03-07-37; The Jell-O Program 03-14-37; Town Hall Tonight 12-22-37; The Fred Allen Show 12-18-40 (Excerpt)
