Summary

The first Doctor, William Hartnell, and his companions join the caravan of the legendary explorer Marco Polo in this seven-part 'lost' story from the programme's original 1964 series. The TARDIS materialises at the Roof of the World, Central Asia, in 1289. There they meet Marco Polo and his fellow travellers on their mammoth journey across the Pamir Plateau and through the Gobi desert to Peking. Unfortunately for the Doctor, his Ship proves to be of immense interest to Polo, who sets his mind on presenting it to the mighty Kublai Khan on arrival at his court. But Polo isn't the only one with designs on the TARDIS. The war-like Tegana will go to any lengths to steal the magical blue box, lengths which endanger the lives of all the travellers. When the Doctor meets Kublai Khan himself, his precious Ship is his only collateral in a high-stakes game of backgammon, and Khan is a master of the game.... William Russell, Jacqueline Hill, and Carole Ann Ford co-star as the Doctor's companions, whilst Mark Eden plays the explorer Marco Polo. This story is currently missing from the BBC Television Archives.

Summary

Materialising in a forest, the Doctor and friends find themselves 12 kilometres from Paris. It is the 18th century, and France is the scene of an ongoing battle between royalists and revolutionaries. Following a blaze at a farmhouse, Ian, Barbara, and Susan are separated from the Doctor and arrested as traitors. Ian receives information about James Stirling, an English spy vital to the revolution. No one seems to know where Stirling is, and locating him becomes Ian's priority.

The Doctor, meanwhile, arrives in Paris in the guise of a Regional Officer, and before long has an audience with Robespierre. With Robespierre's downfall imminent, and the revolution about to reach its climax, the Doctor and his friends must get away before they become victims of Madame Guillotine.

The remastered soundtrack of a classic story starring William Hartnell, with linking narration by Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan in these six episodes from 1964.

Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker

Summary

William Hartnell stars as the first Doctor in this classic four-episode story from 1966, which pits the TARDIS crew against one of the most powerful enemies they have ever encountered.

The travellers arrive in the dangerous domain of the Toymaker, where their failure to win at a series of games could result in them becoming his playthings for eternity. Apparently innocuous nursery characters reveal deadly intent, and for companions Steven and Dodo the stakes are raised with every game of blind man's buff and musical chairs. The Doctor, meanwhile, is rendered invisible and given the challenge of completing the fiendishly difficult Trilogic game.

This fondly-remembered story, only one episode of which survives in the television archives, is narrated by Peter Purves who also played Steven in the story. Michael Gough is the Toymaker and Jackie Lane is Dodo, whilst Carmen Silvera adopts a number of roles.

Summary

First Doctor William Hartnell and his companions mix with mythical Greek Gods in this exclusive audio recording of a 'lost' television soundtrack, with linking narration by Peter Purves.

The Doctor has adopted many guises in his time, but to be hailed as the great god Zeus is a bit of a shock. Yet this is exactly what happens when the TARDIS lands on the plains of Asia Minor, not far from the city of Troy. Taken to the Greek camp by Achilles, the Doctor is introduced to Agamemnon and Odysseus and forced to admit his less¿than¿godlike status. He is then given just two days to come up with a strategy for defeating the Trojans.

Meanwhile, Steven and Vicki have been taken prisoner by the other side. The Trojans are convinced that Vicki is a spy, and to prove her loyalty she must concoct a plan to defeat the Greeks! Like the Doctor, she has just two days to do it.

Luckily for the Doctor, a certain someone has already devised a scheme for beating the Trojans. Even if the wooden horse was invented for a piece of fiction written in the eighth century, it still works. As the opposing forces come face to face in a climactic battle, there are dangers aplenty for both Steven and Vicki. By the time the TARDIS moves away again, it will have both lost and gained a crew member.

Doctor Who: The Daleks' Master Plan

Summary

William Hartnell is the original Doctor in the most epic Doctor Who story ever made, in which his arch-enemies, the Daleks, threaten to destroy the fabric of Time itself! In their quest to gain control of the Solar System, the Daleks have taken posession of the Time Destructor, a weapon which threatens the safety of all who stand in their way. As they head up an alliance of alien races bent on destroying the human race, in their midst is none other than the treacherous Guardian of the Solar System, Mavic Chen. A dangerous chase ensues across volcanos, jungles, deserts, and futuristic cities, as the Doctor and his companions struggle to prevent the Daleks' plans coming to fruition. The stakes are high, and for the first time in the programme's history the lives of two TARDIS travellers are lost.... Peter Purves (who played Steven in the story) narrates these thirteen episodes, only two of which survive in the television archives. Included is the special 'teaser', Mission To The Unknown, which was transmitted some weeks before the master plan itself was unleashed. This story marks the first appearance, here playing space agent Bret Vyon, of Nicholas Courtney, who would later create the recurring role of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. Jean Marsh and Adrienne Hill also star as companions Sara Kingdom and Katarina.

Summary

The TARDIS lands in Paris in 1572 at the time of the massacre of the French Protestants at the hands of the Catholic Queen Mother, Catherine de Medici. Worryingly for the TARDIS crew, it appears that the hated Catholic dignitary the Abbot of Amboise is a dead ringer for the Doctor himself....

This is a four-part Doctor Who story from 1966, wiped from the BBC Archives, which exists on soundtrack only. Peter Purves supplies added narration to the story. The episodes have not been seen for more than thirty years, and given that they no longer exist in visual form, they are now audio exclusives. The Doctor is played by William Hartnell.

Doctor Who: The Savages

Summary

William Hartnell stars as the first Doctor in this exclusive recording of a 'lost' television adventure.

When the TARDIS materialises on an alien planet, the Doctor insists that he and his companions have arrived in the far future. Steven and Dodo think otherwise, however, after they encounter a band of cave-dwelling primitives who are terrified of strangers.

The travellers soon discover that the planet's population is divided into two castes, and that the professed idyll of the Elders, who inhabit a technologically advanced city, seems oddly dependent upon the unsophisticated Savages.

Whilst the Elders' leader, Jano, welcomes the Doctor into their society, Dodo stumbles upon a dark secret at the heart of the community. The truth behind the Elders' great knowledge is eventually revealed, and the Doctor sees it as his duty to end a terrible case of exploitation. Yet Jano has plans of his own for the Doctor....With the Doctor's faithful companion Steven discovering that events on this planet will irrevocably shape his destiny, The Savages marks the final appearance in the programme of Peter Purves, who also provides the linking narration for this release.
