Before we begin, you should know: Villainy is apparently contagious. The Writings of Villains are secret runes, innocuous at first glance, but addictive, seductive, and, in the end, ineluctable. Hearing those words aloud? Why, that's just abominable. Quick! Run, before the words can eat you! Contained in this deceptively short volume are many, many little stories, largely in assorted scifi/fantasy/speculative fiction settings (and don't get us started on the Fairy Tales). They're often satirical, frequently sharp-edged, sometimes poison-tipped, and what's worse is, none of them show proper respect and reverence to Heroes, much less Goodness, Truth, and Light. This is clearly Very Bad, and you should stay far away from this book. I mean, you’re familiar with Atlantis, surely? It drowned because its citizens didn’t recognize the basic truth: Words are immensely powerful, and thus need to be trapped beneath layers of fear, shame, guilt, and unhappiness. We need to rely those who seek selflessly to protect us by trying to blot out, censor, cancel, or silence the wrong words; and if all of those Wards and Circles of Protection fail us, we’ve nothing left to fall on except the knowledge that we’re bad people for doing all this listening, and we should feel the most hideous Remorse. Because otherwise.... Otherwise, how will we know which things are acceptable to do, speak, and think? It’s those damn Villainpunks, the Dark Lords, Villains, and Monsters who break rules, disobey, and challenge the ideas of what’s permissible and what’s possible. They’re beasts; unruly, unrulable; rogues, cads, ne’er-do-wells, rakehells, vagabonds, pirates, fiends. And you surely don’t want to be like them. Wait…you do? Damn it, it's too late. The contagion has spread, and you are infected. Well, nothing for it, then. Best buy this book and resign yourself to a life of infamy. Pull up a seat at the bar; first round's on the house.

This book is a collection of two novellas, Madhouse and Shifter, followed by a full-length novel titled Heaven’s Peak. The stories are separate from each other’s narratives and can be listened to in any order. Madhouse: Faced with his parents' divorce, 11-year-old Lucas runs away from home in the hope that his family will get back together to find him. While walking through the empty streets, he is picked up by a mysterious woman, who offers to take care of him and provide him with a loving family. The boy then wakes up in shackles, confined to a bed in a decrepit house in the middle of nowhere and will have to face his deepest fears in order to survive in his new home. Shifter: Clancy Reynolds is about to propose to the woman of his dreams, but she dumps him for another man before he has the chance. Blinded by rage, he decides to take matters in his own hands. The plan ends in tragedy, and he's sent to a psychiatric hospital where his caretakers ask him to be part of a secret experiment. In exchange, he will have his freedom if he survives. Clancy tries to take a hold of his sanity as he descends into madness. Could he really go back like he was before, or will he succumb to his most twisted desires? Heaven’s Peak: After the tragic death of his mother, teenage photographer Kevin Miller moves to a new town with his alcoholic father and eight-year-old sister in the hope of bringing the family together and starting over. However, everything changes when Kevin witnesses his sister being kidnapped by a bizarre creature. The police is skeptical of his story, so he decides to unveil the mysteries surrounding the town on his own. On the other side of the investigation, FBI agent Norman James will do anything to solve the baffling case, except believe a traumatized teenager's nonsense. Meanwhile, newscasts predict a blizzard approaching in the next couple of days as people in the town begin to behave strangely. Will they be able to find the little girl before Heaven's Peak is consumed by darkness?

It was supposed to be a simple corporate training session. No one knew there would be hell to pay. Creepy not gory, an edge-of-your-seat pause-resister....
