Are we doing DevOps or SRE? There are many blogs, videos, and Quora posts discussing the similarities and differences in both the practices. SRE was developed by Google for internal consumption and overlaps with the DevOps culture and philosophy. Now let’s see a definition of DevOps and SRE! DevOps is more of an organizational culture that fills the gap between coder and the operation person and aligns them to the overall organizational goal. SRE is what happens when a software engineer is entrusted with operations! This audiobook can be used by a beginner, technology consultant, business consultant, project manager, or any member of the project team trying to figure out SRE and DevOps. The structure of the audiobook is such that it answers the most asked questions about DevOps and SRE. It also covers the best and the latest case studies with benefits. Well, you have been hearing a lot about DevOps lately. Wait until you meet a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)! Google is the pioneer in the SRE movement, and Ben Treynor from Google defines SRE as, “what happens when a software engineer is tasked with what used to be called operations”. The ongoing struggles between development and ops team for software releases have been sorted out by mathematical formula for green or red-light launches! Sounds interesting. Now, do you know which the organizations are using SRE? Apart from Google, you can find SRE job postings from LinkedIn, Twitter, Uber, Oracle, Twitter, and many more. I also enquired about the average salary of a SRE in USA, and all the leading sites gave similar results: around $130,000 per year. Also, currently, the most-sought job titles in tech domain are DevOps and Site Reliability Engineer. So, do you want to know how SRE works, what the required skill sets are, how a software engineer can transit to SRE role, how LinkedIn used SRE to facilitate the deployment process? Here is your chance to dive into the SRE role and know what it takes to be and implement best SRE practices. The DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and SRE movements are here to stay and grow. "There would be no trees without branches, and there would be no furniture without joints." The one which binds together has always been special across cultures. Wood joinery has also evolved across various schools of woodworking in their unique ways. For example, in Japanese joinery, the whole wooden house was built on the strength of joinery. Joinery is used for both connecting the wood and also enhancing the aesthetics of the final product. My Journey: Back in the days when I was starting with wood craft, I was desperately looking for the go-to guide about the processes and the tools involved. The online content was information overload and not presented in a sequential manner. The books I referred were either focused on a few processes or assumed that I had the necessary information. Also, I found that most of the books were a little aged. There are two ways of learning; one is learning from subject matter experts who have years of experience, and then there are people who are just a few steps ahead of you in their journey. I am the second one, five years into this hobby, and still learning from the experts. Below is the flow of the information provided in the book: Introduction to joinery Joinery tools: Type of tools and how to use them Detailed discussion on 15 types of joinery Japanese joinery: Introduction, types, pros, cons, and application CNC wood joinery: Introduction, various kinds of CNC joinery Five starter joinery projects with step by step instructions Glossary of joinery terms Tips for beginners So, what are you waiting for? As said in the woodworking community: Measure twice and cut once and let's start the journey.
