Summary

With its trademark "you are there" style, Mark Zuehlke's 10th Canadian Battle Series volume tells the story of the 1942 Dieppe raid. Nicknamed "The Poor Man's Monte Carlo", Dieppe had no strategic importance, but with the Soviet Union thrown on the ropes by German invasion and America having just entered the war, Britain was under intense pressure to launch a major cross-Channel attack against France. Since 1939, Canadian troops had massed in Britain and trained for the inevitable day of the mass invasion of Europe that would finally occur in 1944. But the Canadian public and many politicians were impatient to see Canadian soldiers fight sooner. The first major rehearsal proved such a shambles the raid was pushed back to the end of July only to be cancelled by poor weather. Later, in a decision still shrouded in controversy, the operation was reborn. Dieppe however did not go smoothly. Drawing on rare archival documents and personal interviews, Mark Zuehlke examines how the raid came to be and why it went so tragically wrong. Ultimately, Tragedy at Dieppe honors the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought and died that fateful day on the beaches of Dieppe.

Glorious Finish

Summary

What separates pastors who finish well from those who don’t? When trusted pastors fall into sin and destroy a ministry, the entire body of believers gets hurt. After helping two large churches through the aftermath of such an event, Daniel Henderson discovered that pastoral failings are not primarily rooted in overdeveloped passions for self and sin, but rather in underfed visions of eternity and a lack of zeal for God’s glory. In Glorious Finish, Daniel Henderson teaches you: Why focusing on God’s glory is the key to a fruitful ministry How leaders can build habits that keep them captivated by God and his glory How to stay glory-oriented in the grind, challenges, and spiritual attacks of ministry How to forget the latest techniques and the strategies and spend some time re-centering on what you know is most important - his glory

Suicide Squeeze

Summary

The high spot of Teddy Folger's life was the day in 1954 that he got an autographed baseball card from Joe DiMaggio himself. It's been downhill ever since. Which is why he just unloaded his freeloading wife and torched his own comic-book store - in one of the stupidest insurance scams in history. Enter Conner Samson. The down-on-his-luck repo man has just been hired to repossess Teddy's boat. Little does he know there's a baseball card on board that some men are willing to kill for. Thus begins a rip-roaring cross-country odyssey - and with bodies piling up, the squeeze is on for the penultimate piece of Americana. And Conner will be lucky if he ends up back where he started: broke and (still) breathing.

He had quit the practice of law, burned his suits and ties in a glorious back alley bonfire, and dropped out. He loved his life as a beach bum in Mexico, but the investigation was never over. He was never truly free. In No Time to Hide, Michael Collins is indicted, arrested, and must account for his past. The only question is whether Michael Collins has one more trick up his sleeve or whether it's all over.
