Survival situations often don't start off as such, like a day hike or a fishing trip. It is only when things go wrong that you are suddenly faced with a life-and-death survival situation. Therefore, you want to plan for the unexpected. Before you set off into the woods, take the time to go through all contingencies. Disasters often don't come with advance notice, nor do they send you any early warning signs. So learning how to survive in the wilderness can truly save you and your family's life. After hiking, backpacking, and camping out for many years in 17 different countries, I have mastered the art of survival in the woods. Because I have done it for so long, I will tell you, it was a "learn as I go" process for me. But for you, it may not be that easy. Why, you may ask? What if a severe natural or man-made disaster happens suddenly? What if a war breaks out? Would you be ready? I have been teaching hiking, camping, and backpacking for many years in many countries, but in the last three years, a group of people in Colombia asked me to teach them survival tactics in the woods. That question opened my mind and eyes wide; I know why they had asked me to teach them, but what if similar civil and or political unrest or war breaks out in our country? How many of us would be ready? More importantly how many of us would actually survive? I believe every one of us needs to know at least the basics of wilderness survival like what bushcraft skills you need, what bushcraft gears and supplies you will require, and how to navigate yourself in the wilderness. Along with the knowledge, let's make a survival pack ready just in case. Once you do these two things (first gather the basic knowledge of survival, second get the emergency pack ready), I believe you will sleep better at night. This is what you will master: How to get started in bushcraft Four survival basics in the woods 10 bushcraft skills to master Tips and tricks to bushcraft survival Bushcraft tools and gears you need How to find and treat water (source water from plants, trees, and underground) How to find a prepare food (trapping, gathering, and cooking) How to catch fish (bare hand, trotline, spearfishing, fish traps) How to make snares and traps to catch animals How to start a fire without lighters or matches How to build both long and short term shelters Bushcraft safety and emergency first aid (how to use medicinal herbs) How to navigate your way around the wilderness (map- and compass-reading basics) How to practice and get prepared for wilderness survival Activities you can do in the woods Money saving tips on bushcraft survival gear List of items you need to take with you All of this comes directly from my personal experience and not from Google search.

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, borderline diabetes, obesity, and being overweight. I lived a busy life, and I didn't have a lot of money. Taking the time to follow a strict diet and exercise routine or paying out a lot of money for a gym membership or personal training was out of the question. At first, I tried training for a marathon as my younger brother Bobby was a cross country marathon runner. But after the second day with him, I realized that my body was not fit for marathon practice. Bobby's coach then told me about hiking, and since he was an avid hiker himself, he took me on two hiking trips, and I was hooked. That was 12 years ago. Fast forward to the present, I now am an experienced long-distance hiker. I have traveled and hiked in over 17 countries. I no longer have diabetes or high blood pressure. I am also a certified hiking coach for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. I teach and promote family hiking where a family with kids of any ages can go for a hike as a mini-camping trip and have a fun time. I wrote this guide for people who are looking to get into shape while enjoying their time outdoors, especially with their family and kids. Think of hiking as a mini-camping trip where you get to enjoy the beautiful nature while getting into shape and spending quality time with your family.

Words have enormous power. They can make us erupt into laughter or bring tears to our eyes. They can influence, inspire, manipulate and shock. They can build and destroy. Some words have different effects on different people. One such word is humility. It is one of those words that is seldom in neutral gear. Some, like me, love the word and all it stands for. Some almost fear it and interpret it synonymously with lack of self-confidence or timidity. Humility is one of the virtues often mentioned in our everyday life. The definition of humility need not include timidity or becoming a wallflower. Instead, humility simply requires a man to think of his abilities and his actions as no greater, and no lesser, than they really are. Real humility then mandates that a man knows and is completely honest with himself. He honestly assesses to what magnitude he possesses talents and gifts, struggles and weaknesses. Our popular image of manliness usually consists of a man with a cocky swagger, a rebel who blazes his own path and stands confident and ready to take on the world. "Humility" doesn't seem to fit into this image. Humility oftentimes conjures up images of weakness, submissiveness, and fear. But this is a false idea of humility. Real humility is a sign of strength, authentic confidence, and courage. It is the mark of a true man. Humility is considered a state of being, highlighted by your behavior and approach to things. It's also considered one of the virtues of the human condition, along with kindness, patience, diligence, charity, temperance, and chastity. Humility is the mother of all virtues; purity, charity, and obedience. It is in being humble that our love becomes real, devoted, and ardent. If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are. If you are blamed you will not be discouraged. If they call you a saint you will not put yourself on a pedestal.
