![Cover art for The Hope Of Elantris [Dramatized Adaptation]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51pWldDylnL._SL500_.jpg)
Notes from the author: The following is a short story I wrote in the Elantris world back in January of 2006. At that point, Elantris had been out in stores for only about seven or eight months, but I actually hadn’t written anything new on the story or world since 2000, when I’d finished the first draft of the original book. There were always a few holes in the manuscript where I decided not to include viewpoints or sections of explanation in the name of streamlining, particularly at the end. In the back of my mind, I knew what happened. This story talks about one of those holes; it is meant to be heard after you’ve finished the novel and takes place during the events of the climax. In the annotation, I’ve written a further explanation of why I wrote this piece. Some of you may find it interesting to hear this ahead of time; I put it in the annotation, however, as I know others would rather enjoy the story without bias beforehand, then hear my thoughts afterward. Either way, if you haven’t listened to Elantris, this contains major spoilers. Might I suggest listening to the book first? This story won’t work at all for you if you haven’t. Performed by Colleen Delany, Kimberly Gilbert, Mort Shelby, James Lewis, Richard Rohan, Michael John Casey, Danny Gavigan, Tracy Olivera, Eric Messner, Nanette Savard, Chris Davenport, Evan Casey, Scott McCormick, Ken Jackson, Timothy Lynch, Thomas Penny, Rose Elizabeth Supan.

There's little to remember about life before the Big Nuke, but there's plenty to scavenge in the tainted wreckage of the post-apocalyptic frontier. The barbaric code of survival of the fittest, meanest, or dirtiest makes for hard living and easy death. But Ryan Cawdor and his friends have stayed alive by holding on to their humanity-playing fair...and chilling only when they've got no choice. A civil war raging in the Des Moines River valley forces Ryan and his companions to take sides, or die. Because somewhere in the middle of the generations-old conflict is a lost redoubt. But Snake Eye, the deadliest gunslinger in Deathlands, stands between them and the way out. And the mutie contract chiller won't step aside until he has Ryan's head. In Deathlands, there's nothing but rock and a hard place.... In the 1870s, as the country recovered from the War Between the States, the expansion of railroads and the discovery of gold opened the American west to both civilization and savagery. Men and women on both sides of the law were drawn by the chance to make a fortune, and there was often a big difference between Law and Justice. Into this whirlwind rode Nathan Stone, a man whose trail of vengeance gave him a reputation for speed with a gun. He tracked and killed the seven men who murdered his family after the war. Now, the first of those deaths has come back to haunt him. He finds unlikely friends among some of the famous gunfighters and adventurers who brought life - and death - to a land that once knew only the buffalo and the Indian. Only the strongest will survive The Killing Season. A wrecked German bomber...key to the secrets of the Third Reich? All it took was one phone call and TV show host and archaeologist Annja Creed is in mortal danger. Her producer Doug Morrell has been abducted by a greedy treasure hunter who's seeking the lost raubgold, or looted gold of Nazi Germany. The terms are simple: retrieve the bounty and Doug lives. Fail, and he dies.... Now Annja and her friends must find a missing German fighter plane that was shot down over the Alps in 1945. According to legend, the aircraft not only holds a shipment of gold the Nazis had stolen, but also carried the last letters of the führer himself. Letters that point to a more startling treasure buried underwater halfway around the world. But Annja isn't interested in treasure, or even unearthing historic relics. Annja has one agenda: get Doug out alive...even if it means drawing her sword from its otherworldly sheath. Even if it means death. Because once greed drives a man to violence, nothing will stop him.... Performed by Nanette Savard, Colleen Delany, Jonathan Feuer, Terence Aselford, Bradley Smith, Eric Messner, Scott McCormick, Andy Clemence, James Lewis, Ken Jackson, Dylan Lynch, Michael John Casey, Lily Beacon.

Welcome to the peaceful little town of Doubtful, Wyoming, which has more than its fair share of kill-crazy gunslicks, back-shooters, and flat-out dirty desperadoes. It also has a sheriff named Cotton Pickens, who tries his best to keep law and order without getting his head blown off before breakfast. Cotton Pickens got where he is by virtue of a quick draw and slow wit. He knows the difference between lawbreakers you have to lock up...and the kind you might as well just let go. Deputy Rusty Irons, though, ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. Someone kidnapped Rusty's mail order brides. They were probably doing Irons a favor, but a deputy in love is blind. As for the carny barkers, medicine show con artists, and revival-meeting fly-by-nighters who pass through Doubtful...Cotton just tries to keep the traveling hucksters moving. But in one terrible moment, it all goes to hell. That's when Doubtful explodes in a frenzy of killing and bloodshed. That's when a lawman like Cotton earns his pay by looking evil straight in the eye. Of course, there's also the matter of keeping his new deputy alive and in one piece. Performed by Ken Jackson, David Coyne, Richard Rohan, Scott McCormick, Elisabeth Demery, Terence Aselford, Evan Casey, Ren Casey, Michael John Casey, Jeff Allin, Eric Messner, Patrick Bussink, Tim Pabon, Alyssa Wilmoth, Nanette Savard, Colleen Delany, Dylan Lynch, Daniel Sonntag, Matthew Basset, Nora Achrati, James Konicek, David Jourdan, Mort Shelby, Christopher Graybill, James Keegan, Gregory Gorton.
