Summary

Please note: contains strong language and adult content. Meet Miranda. She is a cheerful and happy-go-lucky single girl who just happens to be a dominatrix with a dungeon in her flat where she services clients with flogging and extreme correction and (if she's lucky) gets the occasional slave to pay her for the honour of doing her vacuuming.  When she's not delivering 30 lashes to the sensitive parts of religious zealots or doing step aerobics in stilettos on the buttocks of retired army officers, she is just trying to get on with the neighbours and make her flatmate, Dan, realise that in spite of what he may think of her job, she could just be the girl of his dreams (and not just his nightmares).  This is a refreshingly funny and joyfully rude sitcom that proudly celebrates sex, nonconformity, and doing the wrong thing. Summary

Comedy’s best-kept secret ingredient gets his own sketch show. This is the complete first series, containing sketches, characters, sound effects, bit of music, some messin’ about, you know....

Kevin Eldon is a comedy phenomenon. He’s been in virtually every major comedy show in the last 15 years, but not content with working with the likes of Chris Morris, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse, Stewart Lee, Julia Davis, and Graham Linehan, he finally decided to put together his own comedy series for BBC Radio 4.

After all the waiting - Kevin Eldon Will See You Now....

Appearing in the series are Amelia Bullmore (I’m Alan Partridge, Scott & Bailey), Rosie Cavaliero (Peep Show), Julia Davis (Nighty Night), Paul Putner (Little Britain), Justin Edwards (The Thick Of It), Rosie Cavaliero (Peep Show), and David Reed (The Penny Dreadfuls) with special guests Philip Pope (Radio Active) & Phil Cornwell (Stella Street, I'm Alan Partridge)

In the first episode, a robot king, a '50s spaceman, a ghastly lottery, some crabs, a kitten, disco, and John Donne. Episode two contains a fly, a fruitbowl and the Hallelujah Chorus. Obviously. Plus maverick street-artist Banksy’s first-ever in-depth interview. The third episode is guest week! And to celebrate, Kevin Eldon will be talking to his guests, who include a stupid man; the late Apollo 11 mission commander, Neil Armstrong; and sadly, a hypnotist. The fourth and final episode of the series sees Kevin go into space, meet a bandit and evoke the powerful gods of Ancient Egypt. Not all at the same time, obviously; that would be weird. No, separately.

Summary

Have you ever wondered what happens when you die? If there is a God? And did he ever have a plan for the world?   When committed rationalist and atheist, Ralph, dies on his honeymoon he discovers, much to his unhappy surprise, the answers to all of these questions.  He finds himself on a cloud and working for a God who is very unhappy that his plan for the world has all gone horribly wrong. And if Ralph is ever going to make it through the pearly gates to enjoy an afterlife with his late (but still much loved) bride, he has to go back and fix the world.  A very tongue-in-cheek satirical take on religion, belief and petty office politics, this sitcom is bursting with imaginative, fresh writing.  With added dodos....

Flatland

Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.  A work that still poses provocative questions about perception and reality, Flatland is a brilliant parody of Victorian society where all existence is limited to length and breadth - its inhabitants unable even to imagine a third dimension. The amiable narrator, A. Square, provides an overview of this fantastic world - its physics and metaphysics, its history, customs and religious beliefs. But when a strange visitor mysteriously appears and transports the incredulous Flatlander to the Land of Three Dimensions, his worldview is forever shattered.  Written more than a century ago, Flatland offers an extraordinary animation of dimension, geometry and physical space that continues to resonate in contemporary science.

The Missing Hancocks: The Complete BBC Radio Series

Summary

Kevin McNally and Andy Secombe star in new recordings of original Hancock's Half Hour scripts by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson. Between 1954 and 1959, BBC Radio recorded 102 episodes of the hugely popular comedy classic, Hancock's Half Hour. The first modern sitcom, Hancock's Half Hour made stars of Tony Hancock, Sid James and Kenneth Williams, and launched Ray Galton and Alan Simpson as one of the most successful comedy-writing partnerships in history.  Sadly, 22 episodes of the show went missing from the BBC archives and have not been heard since their original transmission nearly 60 years ago - until Radio 4 lovingly recreated them over four highly-acclaimed series between 2014 and 2020. In a special treat for Hancock fans, Series 4 also premiered one episode - The Counterfeiter - that was never recorded by the original team. Complete with the classic score performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, these hilarious episodes were recorded at the BBC Radio Theatre in front of a live audience. Kevin McNally stars as The Lad Himself, with Andy Secombe playing the role of his father Harry and a stellar cast including Simon Greenall, Kevin Eldon, Robin Sebastian, Margaret Cabourn-Smith and Susy Kane. Also featured is a bonus director's commentary for The Matador, in which Andy Hamilton chats to Kevin McNally and co-producer Neil Pearson about the joys and challenges of recreating a 1950s sitcom. In addition, we hear Kevin McNally and Robin Sebastian's riotous performance of 'The Test Pilot' sketch at the 2018 RAF centenary gala at the Royal Albert Hall and the interview they gave afterwards.  The episodes included in this collection are: The Matador The Newspaper The Hancock Festival The Breakfast Cereal The New Neighbour How Hancock Won the War The Red Planet The Marriage Bureau A Visit to Russia The Trial of Father Christmas A Holiday in France The Crown Jewels The Racehorse A Visit to Swansea The Three Sons The Winter Holiday Department Store Santa The Diamond Ring Prime Minister Hancock Christmas at Aldershot The Counterfeiter The Christmas Eve Party The New Year Resolutions Written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson. Produced by Ed Morrish, Neil Pearson, Paul Sheehan and Hayley Sterling. Music composed by Wally Stott and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Levon Parikian. Thanks to Tessa Le Bars. A BBC Studios Production. Originally broadcast on the BBC Light Programme between 1954 and 1959. Recreated for broadcast by BBC Radio Comedy for BBC Radio 4, 31st October - 28th November 2014 (Series 1), 23rd November - 21st December 2015 (Series 2), 14th March - 11th April 2017 (Series 3), 6th December 2018 - 31st December 2020 (Series 4). The Science Fiction of Edgar Allan Poe

Summary

Brought to you by Penguin. This Penguin Classic is performed by the acclaimed comedian and actor Kevin Eldon (star of It's Kevin, Alan Partidge, Big Train, Brass Eye and Hot Fuzz) supported by Bettrys Jones, Joe Jameson and Rory Alexander. This definitive recording includes an introduction by Harold Beaver, read by Rory Alexander. One of the greatest of all horror writers, Edgar Allan Poe (1809-49) also composed pioneering tales that seized upon the scientific developments of an era marked by staggering change. In this collection of 16 stories, he explores such wide-ranging contemporary themes as galvanism, time travel and resurrection of the dead. 'The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfall' relates a man's balloon journey to the moon with a combination of scientific precision and astonishing fantasy. Elsewhere, the boundaries between horror and science are elegantly blurred in stories such as 'The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar', while the great essay 'Eureka' outlines Poe's own interpretation of the universe. Powerfully influential on later authors including Jules Verne, these works are essential listening for anyone wishing to trace the genealogy of science fiction, or to understand the complexity of Poe's own creative vision.
