Summary
Spring Awakening By Frank Wedekind Translated by Francis J. Ziegler Presented by The Online Stage Spring Awakening (German: Frühlings Erwachen) was the first major play by Frank Wedekind. It was written in the early 1890s but, due to opposition from censorship authorities, was not presented on stage until 1906. The play explores two contentious themes: the development of adolescent sexuality and the repressive nature of the German education system. As with most of Wedekind's plays, the action is presented in a series of snapshots. In Wedekind's view, life is a series of episodes linked by the action of deeply seated human impulses, rather than the more conventional view of it as a journey to a heightened level of personal understanding. Summary
We only learned about our father's girlfriend after he became deathly ill and lay in a coma 120 miles from our home. Overhearing the nurse tell Linda - since I was nine I had called my mom by her first name - about the girlfriend who came in almost every day to visit him when we weren't there confirmed that the last moment of normal had passed us by without our realizing it. Up to then, our family had unhappily coexisted with Dad flying jumbo jets to Asia while we lived in Montana. We finally came together to see Dad through his illness, but he was once again absent from a major family event - unable to join us from his comatose state. This is the moment when our normal existence tilted. Dad recovered, but the marriage ailed, as did Linda, with cancer. Our family began to move down an entirely different path with silver linings we wouldn't see for many years. In this candid and compassionate memoir, Nicole Harkin describes with an impressionist's fine eye the evolution of a family that is quirky, independent, uniquely supportive, peculiarly loving, and, most of all, marvelously human.

From the age of 16 to 18, Anne is about to start her first term teaching at the Avonlea school. The book soon introduces Anne's new and problematic neighbor, Mr. Harrison, and his foul-mouthed parrot, as well as the twins, Davy and Dora. Other characters introduced are some of Anne's new pupils and Miss Lavendar Lewis, a sweet but lonely lady. This book sees Anne maturing slightly, even though she still cannot avoid getting into a number of her familiar scrapes, as only Anne can - some of which include selling her neighbor's cow (having mistaken it for her own), or getting stuck in a broken duck house roof while peeping into a pantry window.
